Because the group of people it's aimed at believe it is offensive. I would guess that this group of people believe it is more offensive than Breck Girl or girly-man, but I don't know for certain. The reason for this is because the people to whom these terms are applied have the right to decide what offends them, and in what order. This is the usual way of insults - the people delivering them intend to be offensive, and shouldn't pretend to be surprised when the targets of the insults are offended.

But it wasn't aimed at a group of people. It was aimed at one heterosexual man -- and not even that as much as it was a broader point about a current events story.
