The real key is this, who is going to beat Rudy? It sure as hell won't be Romney and McCain is falling apart. He looks old, and his position on the war, rightly or wrongly, is turning him into Bob Dole.

George Allen really, really blew it, because I think he would be way up there now the way this has played out. If he hadn't made so many mistakes...though that proves he probably shouldn't be Pres.

I see only one name that could swoop in and do something to the Right of Rudy and that is Fred Thompson, but he has probably already waited too long.

If a well spoken person on the right showed up other than Gingrich, they could get a huge boost in money and ground game. But I haven't seen them...and they have to appear roughly about NOW to have a prayer.

Looks like Rudy v Hillary to me..possibly Edwards.

The election isn't for another 22 months. Nobody has "waited too long".

Howard Dean was inevitable 2 months before the Iowa Caucus.

Fred could still snag a nomination - but will he?

Single issue conservatives/Republicans.

They did it to G. H. W. Bush and we got 8 years of Bill Clinton. If the do it again, we get the Marxist wife -- and 8 more years of Slick Willie.

Fred Thompson is pretty good. But he'll never look as good as he did on L&O or Red October on the campaign trail. I like him but I suspect he's overestimated as a presidential candidate.

It's not too late until about September. If Rudy (or the frontrunner) implodes as McCain already has, even October or November. But it would have to be someone well-known, like Jeb Bush or a charismatic governor.
