NY State is a blue state. Why would they vote for a Republican?
Why would NYC vote for Giuliani? How did Pataki become and remain governor?
How is that possible?
Pat had a lot of other problems as well, so I don't think that carries too much weight.
And I think there is a lot of working-stiff resentment - and also some among IT workers watching the Beltway types trying to up H1-B visas again. I watch the talking head shows and see just how oblivious the mandarin class has become to the concerns of folks in flyover country. It will be interesting to see what becomes of that disconnect.
When was the last time NY voted for a Republican for President?
Romney had busloads of youngsters brought in. Hunter has done well in two GOP straw polls, and I think those are less subject to manipulation of the type Romeny's team pulled.
Reagan, I believe.
Your fear is what is behind the vehement attacks on Giuliani. If these attacks continue and increase then I expect what you say will become true. But the conservatives need not marginalize themself. Keep fighting in the primaries, unite around one candidate, do not become an enemy of Giuliani though not a supporter. This makes the chance of a strongly conservative VP likely.
Such an event would mean that the conservative movement remains viable and would set up a potential victory later on.
You do not seriously believe that: 1)Americans will elect a hard core conservative; or 2) they have a true view of what a conservative even is.
Fred could still snag a nomination - but will he?
Reagan in '84 I believe.
If this guy is the future then I don't need to wear shades.
Another post from the "Fifteen Percent"
Since Hunter was the great "conservative" hope his miserable showing was extremely damaging to his chances. If ANY group should have supported him it was this one.
Once you analyze the vote it showed several other things of interest. 1) Giuliani confirmed his leading position with MINIMAL effort; 2) Romney had a good showing (on the surface) with MAXIMUM effort (half his vote came from the kids whom he paid the registration fees for; 3) Newt showed strength with MINIMAL effort; 4) Giuliani showed that conservatives will both listen raptly to him and vote for him in numbers far exceeding the claims of his enemies.
Correct, and that was pretty much a clean sweep by the Gipper.... which this election won't be.
I dunno. Probably not since Reagan. But if they can elect a Republican governor, then the state can obviously vote for a Republican President. What's the difference?
You can argue that Hillary will beat Rudy in New York if it comes down to those two choices.
Can you argue that Obama will beat him there if it comes down to that?
Probably not too successfully.
And if a Republican wins New York next year, it's game, set, match. Don't even need to the count the votes out west.
I'm not even on Guiliani's bandwagon. None of the announced candidates are getting my support or money at this time. It's too early, and there's no pressing reason for me to make a decision.
But I am appalled at the venom at this forum for those who have jumped on a bandwagon. It's ugly and it's harmful.
The biggest mistake of a Giuliani supporter is in thinking that he offers the best chance to win. On the contrary, he will drive conservatives to a third-party candidate in droves, handing the presidency to Hillary/other communist.
A Giuliani nomination is a stake in the heart of this country.
thanks, see my post #74
What I do know is that they did not get a complete story from you given your other statements. Maybe they just like you alot.
"do not become an enemy of Giuliani though not a supporter"
Consider voting for a New York liberal? I wouldn't p*** on either if he or she were on fire.
On the other hand, I might show up if either were impaled, then spun until they burst into flames.
But I'd still preserve my precious bodily fluids . . . Mandrake.
Mucus, you know? And dairy products: don't get me started.
