Ahah, maybe my plan is now coming into effect.... bwahahahaha

I had floated the idea that Cheney should resign for reasons of ill health and give Bush the chance to appoint the next heir apparent for the republican party. At least it would end all of our bickering. My hopes would be that Bush would choose the only rock-ribbed social conservative in the race, Duncan Hunter, and give him the name recognition & immediate positioning that he needs. It would save the republican party about $100M, give Cheney a chance to rest, set the party on the straight course, and have all of us admiring Bush's poker playing skills yet again. Hunter wouldn't even have to get ratified; just getting the exposure would be enough. It would be worth more than a supreme court nomination at this time; not many knew the name of Harriet Miers before she was nominated for SCUS, and now she's instantly recognizable.

Will this mean that Mitt Romney will eventually be named as Cheney's V.P. replacement?

Poor Vice President Cheney, all those brains, all that money, all that influence on American foreign policy, all that makes him such a powerful man (and to me, delightful individual), and he's stuck with all those physical problems. Don't seem fair somehow.

"and give Bush the chance to appoint the next heir apparent for the republican party"

In the short run this may be a great idea to crystallize Republican support behind one candidate, but in the long run it may work against us.

The MSM seems to have successfully marginalized Bush, so anyone that gets his blessing may be similarly marginalized.

He may help win over the Republicans, but lose the support of Independents.

***The way the MSM is ignoring Duncan Hunter, any kind of exposure would help him. But let's assume GWB just picks candidate X. Candidate X gets the support of the republican party, lotsa media coverage, a clear message moving forward. If Congress drags their feet on ratifying Candidate X, I would expect more backlash than what occurred with Harriet Miers. Did you know who Harriet Miers was before GWB nominated her? Most people don't, but now due to the exposure (note she DIDN'T win) most people do know who she is. Same thing would happen to Hunter/whoever. The more the demos would drag their feet on a replacement, the worse they look, and the more we get to hammer away at them for their political move and the american public would remember it. The "marginalization" of GWB is mostly hooey anyways, because he's still PRESIDENT, albeit a lame duck for the most part. The marginalization came about due to the 2006 elections, and GWB made his choices in that regard.

He may help win over the Republicans, but lose the support of Independents.
***I doubt it, but since it is one person's viewpoint versus another's and we don't have any concrete information to move forward with until/unless this happens, it's a bit of a moot point.

Just one more datapoint: My mother was a long time Reagan Democrat (even before Reagan) who I was able to convince to become a Reagan Republic about 10 years ago.

She so despises Bush that she can't watch him on TV ... and this is definitely not a result of the MSM brainwashing her.

She is also a big country western fan and her favorite singer is Tim McGraw.

If Bush were to nominate Tim McGraw as Vice-President she would immediately break all of his CD's that she has and stop listening to him.

Don't underestimate the depth of hatred for Bush. It is at least as deep as the hatred we had for Clinton.

Here's 2 datapoints. Since Candidate X as the VP-designate wouldn't have been part of the Bush administration for the last 6 years, it would be very easy for him to distance himself from Bush.

Also, Delphinium has a great example of how these kinds of polls and MSM trashing of socon candidates mean absolutely nothing when the time comes to push the lever. If anything, the negative media attention serves our purposes better when we have a good socon candidate. The media would turn on Rudy so fast it would make a galaxy spin.

Bill Sali won and he was very unashamedly pro-life, less government, less spending, no on taxes, free interprise , no homosexual marriage etc.. and support for the Iraq war securing our borders...all of Jims suggestions.

The media trashed him, the Rinos trashed him even in the general, The polls that the media reported had him so low it looked impossible.

He won big! They were reporting total lying polls to affect the election.
