BUENA PARK, Calif. -- The white supremacist gang Public Enemy No. 1 began two decades ago as a group of teenage punk-rock fans from upper-middle class bedroom communities in Southern California.

Now, the violent gang that deals in drugs, guns and identity theft is gaining clout across the West after forging an alliance with the notorious Aryan Brotherhood, authorities say.

Police say the gang has compiled a "hit list" targeting five officers and a gang prosecutor -- a sign of just how brazen Public Enemy has become.

There's an irony here that a white supremacist gang shares a name with one of the most famous rap groups of all time, a group with albums like "Fear of a Black Planet" and "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back."

What a stupid story. I mean it may be true that there is this one white gang, but ALL of Mexican and black American culture revolves around gangs, like Bloods, Crips, Cholos, etc.,etc. I'm always hearing about a new Mexican gang. It's amazing the complicated gang structures that rule every different part of Mexico (I just read there's a big turf war going on in Acapulco right now, to say nothing of the constant border shootouts we all hear about)

But, just as the little socialists in the papers will only show pictures of white criminals, so they must find at least a token reference to whites in gangs, as if white people are the main practitioners of gang culture. They could have written an immense dissertation on all the black and Mexican gangs out there. But here we have only one white gang, and it joined with the only other white gang anyone has ever heard of, the Aryan Brotherhood, so now it's just one lonely white gang, but let's ignore the dozens or even hundreds of other types of gangs and just write about this one. Par for the course.
