Yes, voting third party, especially in a Presidential election, is a big deal. It's a big "I'M A RETARD" brand on your forehead.
If you want to build up a third party, start at the dogcatcher office level and progress from there. Actually build a party.
Look at the candidacies of John Anderson or Ross Perot and tell me how they either helped the country or built a party.

A qualified minor party may become eligible for partial convention funding based on its Presidential candidate's share of the popular vote in the preceding Presidential election. Nice try. You forgot the above, among other things. Those other things that come with all the free publicity that come along with a party stunning a March madness style upset in the political realm. Dogcatcher gains you nothing when you're trying to build a party. Today, a party must be built with exposure and money from the top down.
