"I agree that there should not be personal attacks. However, I recognize that there are two distinct types of Rudy supporters here.

- Those who support him because they believe he is the only Republican who can win and as such they are willing to ignore his liberal politics.

- And those who support him because his liberal politics most resemble their own.

I have a feeling that many in the second group feel attacked because they recognize that their liberal beliefs are incompatible with those of most FReepers.

Well, I suspect that the group #2 is fewer in number than the over-the-top personal attackers on Rudy are.

I guess you can call me a member of group #1, with the caveat that I do not believe that his presidency will be as liberal as you fear it will be.

I see. So you're willing to bet my Constitutional rights and the rights of every single American on your belief.

And you're willing to do so in spite of all the evidence to the contrary which includes literally decades of his own words and actions.

Do you have any idea just how silly you sound?

Why not support a candidate whose presidency WE KNOW won't be liberal? It makes zero sense to "cross our fingers and hope for the best" when we have genuine conservatives running. And don't talk about "name recognition" or "front runner status" nonsense unless you want to explain why Scoop Jackson, Paul Tsongas, Gary Hart and other such men were never even nominated much less elected.
