Coulter Called Gore A Fag - Where Was The Outrage?
Sweetness & Light ^ | March 4, 2007 | N/A

Posted on 03/04/2007 12:56:27 PM PST by Sam Hill

Come along with me if you will, to a time long ago. Well, actually just a few months ago. But apparently, it was seemingly a more innocent age:

On the July 27, 2006 edition of MSNBC's Hardball, host Chris Matthews asked Ann Coulter, "How do you know that [former President] Bill Clinton is gay?" -- referring to her comment the night before on CNBC's The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch that Clinton "show[s] some level of latent homosexuality."

Coulter responded, "I don't know if he's gay. But [former Vice President] Al Gore -- total fag."

She went on to defend her theory about Clinton's sexuality by stating that "everyone has always known, widely promiscuous heterosexual men have, as I say, a whiff of the bathhouse about them."

Coulter claimed she was "just kidding" about Gore, but said of her theory about Clinton, "It's not only not a joke, it's not even surprising."

As the world now knows, Ann Coulter made a similar joke at CPAC a couple of days ago. But this time our watchdog media were looking for dirt from CPAC, so they latched upon her joke, and pretended she was calling Edwards a faggot -- and of course indulging in hate speech.

But where was their outrage last July?

Where was outrage here at Free Republic?

(I believe some of the members of the audience were even Freepers.)

How time flies.

LOL! You make a good point.

But she has made a parody of herself. You can't always try to be controversial for its own sake and be taken seriously.

(Maybe she was the comic relief at CPAC too?)

"One more way it is different: a lot of us have caught on to her schtick, and it's not that funny anymore."

Well, okay then. You've clearly grown beyond her.

Granted it would be hard to top your humor.

But chancun son goat. (That's a joke.)

LOL! I don't pretend to be humorous.

I actually wrote off Coulter when she insulted Harriet Miers by calling her a cleaning lady. It was quite possible to not support that nomination without insulting a woman who had worked quite hard for the administration, and I found it tasteless and unnecessarily cruel.

My first rule about humor is that it shouldn't be cruel. The second rule is it shouldn't be tasteless.

And ANY person who pretends to be a conservative pundit and doesn't understand how a remark like this can be used in the "guilt by assosciation" campaign of the media is simply clueless about politics.

I hadn't thought of amoral heterosexual debauchery as being a sign of homosexual tendencies before, but perhaps it is.

I always just figured it was the product of a monumentally weak sense of one's masculinity, that it had to be 'proven' repeatedly (clinton is the quintessential weak male). But maybe that insecurity about masculinity is related to tendencies toward homosexuality.

It's a more serious thought than the silliness about Edwards, at least.

"Everything you've just said was said yesterday. "You guy just don't get it," blah, blah, blah.... No sale today, either."

The truth is funny that way. It doesn't change from day to day.

And of course you already knew about this clip I posted. Sure you did. (If I wasn't so lazy I'd go through and try to find the threads where everyone was whooping it up about Ann's jokes. Probably including you.)

But good for you for plugging your ears and sticking to your jihad.

You're right. It really will help the cause so much.

Let's see... Limbaugh's a drug addict, Coulter's a bigot... Who shall we destroy next to improve the conservative movement?

Are you sure she doesn't pepper it with humor to get more attention and get richer?

Sorry, but I don't respect this woman very much. I don't respect anyone very much who needs to get attention so much that he or she says whatever will make a splash.

The reason I don't take her seriously is because of what she says, and as a result, I wouldn't support her ego by buying her books.

Well, you sure summed Ann Coulter up nicely:

She pretends to be a conservative pundit and she's clueless about politics.

Still, we can't all sit on our well-upholstered posteriors and be perfect like you.

But I guess you give us all something to shoot for.

If Ann's "destroyed," as you put it, she did it to herself. I doubt, though, that she's irretrievably harmed herself. It depends on her follow-up.

Enter Ann Coulter. Her "faggot" joke was not just a distraction from all the good that was highlighted and represented at the conference. It was the equivalent of a rhetorical fragging--an intentionally-tossed verbal grenade that exploded in her own fellow ideological soldiers' tent. There are countless conservatives who bring their children to CPAC. It's a family-friendly event. I brought mine last year and the year before. I met several parents with their kids there this year. We expect CPAC to be a place where conservative role models speak with clarity, passion, and integrity. There are enough spewers of mindless filth,...

The Left hates Ann Coulter. They hate her because of the truth she told about the Clintons, how she destroyed the liberal myths about Joe McCarthy and for revealing the godless church of liberalism they worship. The Left hates her because she is a woman who is educated, witty, beautiful and conservative. More than that however, they hate her because every now and then she goads them into exposing their true nature. Such was the case on Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference. In her remarks, Coulter said: "I was going to have a few comments on the other...

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards John Edwards' campaign, reacting to derogatory comments by conservative commentator Ann Coulter — she called the former North Carolina senator and presidential hopeful a "faggot" — is trying to turn it into a rallying point for fundraising, asking supporters to donate $100,000 in "Coulter Cash." It was unclear from the statement on the Edwards campaign Web site what the money would exactly go to, but it did address the comments directly.

WASHINGTON, March 3 — Three of the leading Republican presidential candidates on Saturday denounced one of their party’s best-known conservative commentators for using an antigay epithet when discussing a Democratic presidential contender at a gathering of conservatives here. The remarks by Ann Coulter, an author who regularly speaks at conservative events, were sharply denounced by the candidates, Senator John McCain of Arizona, Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. Their statements came after Democrats, gay rights groups and bloggers raised a storm of protest over the remarks. Ann Coulter is not African-American, does not sing and never said “If black people kill black people every day, why not have a week and kill white people?” However, she is the closest the Republicans will get to Sister Souljah. Coulter has made a career of interspersing insightful and cutting political criticism with outrageous and morally repugnant remarks. She attracted considerable attention with her crack about the group of 9/11 widows dubbed the “Jersey girls,” with a line in one of her books, “These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as...

Conservative author Jennifer Rubin wondered this morning whether any Republican candidates would have the decency to do a little Sistah Souljah-ing here: It is not “caving” into political correctness to distance and indeed condemn such remarks as unworthy of a political event like CPAC… Excommunication is not being suggested, just a public rebuke. By clearly stating her comments are beyond the bounds of civil discourse and her presence not a welcome addition to a mature political party, the Republicans could do themselves a world of good. How often does a party have the opportunity to display some measure of dignity,...

There’s some big fallout from the meeting in Washington of the Conservative Political Action Conference, three days of conferencing, caucusing, presidential addressing and book-hawking. These conferences have historically been known for displaying what its own organizers would describe as over-the-top behavior, and one of the regular speakers – Ann Coulter – offered an example of it when she used an anti-gay epithet on Friday to describe John Edwards, the former senator from North Carolina and Democratic presidential contender. “I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have...

What is the difference?

The difference is this: When she makes a statement like that on Hardball, our candidates are not forced to apologize for her.

When she makes a "faggot" statement from the same stage as our candidates, they ARE forced to respond.

Funny, but I've never seen any attempt at any kind of argumentation, logical or otherwise, from you.

You just stamp your little feet and say you are displeased and therefore Coulter should be removed from your sight. (Though she have flitted from one to another of these threads.)

Your motivations are between you and your analyst. But, yes, you are stupid -- and smug about it.
