For a national hero leading in most early presidential polls, Rudy Giuliani has received remarkably little respect from the political intelligentsia.
At least until recently it's been conventional wisdom that the former New York City mayor can't win the Republican nomination: He was too late gearing up a campaign organization, the pundits say. He has too much personal baggage. He's too liberal on social issues .
The counterargument in two words: Charlie Crist.
In the state that's probably the best microcosm of America, Crist didn't just win last year's gubernatorial primary running as a moderate on social issues. He pulverized by 31 percentage points Tom Gallagher, who had loads of GOP establishment support and basically pinned his campaign on religious conservatives.
The right candidate at the right time can trump even core issues. In the midst of a war on terror, the mayor who proved his leadership mettle on 9/11 is that candidate.

IF. We are going to work damn hard to see that it does not occur.
I see that the link to the St. Pete paper is actually a link to a Rudy2008 Blog. FR posting guidelines require you to link to the actual source. To do otherwise would get us in trouble with the publisher.
The St. Petersburg Times ia a liberal rag.
I screwed this up. The link is wrong and the article has already been posted. Please delete. Thanks
I cannot undrstand how someone could support this gun-grabbing brady bill lover. It boggles the mind.
There is no difference between this man and a dim.

Charlie Crist...pro-life, pro-gun, anti-gay rights.

Nothing like putting a bunch of spin in an article because they think nobody will check...lol.
Almost every candidate can be picked apart by one issue or another. Detractors always accumulate on their opposition to specific issues. But the candidate who comes off as honest, likeable, presents himself well and also bring to the table an unmatched resume will have the inside tract. Personally, Duncan Hunter appeals to me most on the issues, but I think Rudy can't be stopped.
Angry archivists and historians denounced the unprecedented hijacking of public property to private hands. Tom Connors, of the Society of American Archivists, said the transfer seemed part of a movement to "create barriers to the American citizen's right to know what their governments are doing."
The families of the police and fire rescuers who died in the attack balked at Giuliani's plan to take up to a year to dole out the money, with his new organization billing $2.2 million in anticipated administrative expenses (including six-figure salaries for friends he appointed as officers). The families argued that the fire union had far more quickly distributed $111 million with an estimated administrative cost of just $30,000.
Under embarrassing pressure from the victims' families, unions and state Attorney General Elliot Spitzer, Giuliani backed down. He promised to distribute the money within 60 days and fund his overhead from new donations. The families of the deceased rescuers, the real heroes of the September 11 attacks, received a one-time benefit of about $230,000 each from the Giuliani-privatized fund in 2002. That year, the former mayor earned some $8 million in speaking fees alone, more than $650,000 per month.
New York conveniently forgot the 1996 federal ban on sanctuary laws until a gang of five Mexicansfour of them illegalabducted and brutally raped a 42-year-old mother of two near some railroad tracks in Queens. The NYPD had already arrested three of the illegal aliens numerous times for such crimes as assault, attempted robbery, criminal trespass, illegal gun possession, and drug offenses. The department had never notified the INS.

Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it.

Is that was freep is going to look like, constant spamming of ads for different candidates?

That title's just wrong for a guy who enjoys dressing in drag.

Why post an advert/article about a LIBERAL candidate (RINO-rudy) on a CONSERVATIVE site like FR?
Is that what is in store for FR, LIBERAL DU-Lite?
Of course he does. He's a much more likeably democrat than any of the other democrats in the race.
If it wasn't for primaries, Linc Chafee would be President. Well, not Linc, he'd be too liberal, but you get the idea.
Primaries are how we make sure that the candidate representing the Republican party is actually a republican, and espouses our values of life, freedom, national defense, and personal morality.
One out of four is better than zero out of four, but the primary will hopefully allow us to do a bit better.
No point a year before the election picking a candidate who, if not for the war on terror, could be the leading democrat candidate for the Presidency.
And if conservatives can sift through the bullfeathers from roooooooody then he wont win the primary.
