He thought the Japs would surrender if we just wouldn't shoot them.

Projecting our values and thought processes on an enemy that hates our guts and only wants to kill us and has no value for human life is a sure recipe for disaster. Typical liberal mentality; assuning that they'll respond the way we expect them to instead of the way they've been conditioned from birth to react. SO out of touch with reality.

On a very broad level that is true, however it breaks down at the individual level.

One story from back then was from a Japanese combatant on small boat /I think/ and they were engaged by an American pilot flying a F4F on a strafing run and his guns jammed up.

As he broke off the run and passed by them close enough they could see him in the cockpit, he waved his wings at them. The Japanese guy never forgot it.

I know I have these articles somewhere.

But see, as a whole thats the difference between the American warrior and all the rest.

Except for Lindbergh, this story is virtually unknown.

Makes it suspect to me. Surely there are other corroborating sources if there is any truth to it? Believing Charles Lindbergh about this would be like believing Baghdad Bob that the Americans were defeated at the border of Iraq. He had an agenda.

Actually, maybe a better comparison would be to say that believeing Lindbergh would be akin to believing Jane Fonda during the Vietnam War when she assured our country that our POW's were being treated humanely by our enemies.

Hey boys - would you have a look at this thread and see if you have anything to add...

From OhioWfan...

Pinging a few Canteen folks to respond to narby's attack on the behavior of our U.S. Military during WW II based solely on the diary of Charles Lindbergh.

Comments or responses to these unfounded accusations anyone?

Please ping any with information to refute these attacks.

Thanks.

I've now had a chance to read all of your "replies" and it is clear that you (as usual) have nothing but your contrived opinions based on one person's opinion, with absolutely no evidence to back it up.

Nothing, zero, zip, nichts, kotonashi.

Your agenda is being exposed to the larger audience at FR. This is the major leagues, buster. You got to bring game here...meaning facts. You have been exposed, and will continue to be exposed.

And don't bother to debate your anti-american garbage here. You truly don't undertstand the difference in the missions between the freedom ending/world dominating/inhumane experiments/mass murderers/insane fascists in Japan and Germany (they were evil) and the mission of the US military to defend the entire world against those monsters (we were good)...if anyone understands that basic principle and puts it FIRST, then they would NEVER accuse those heroic men and women of the things you have...especially without any specific evidence beyond one man's diary...a man with a questionable agenda.

Yes, I did call in reinforcements because I am tired of people like yourself taking shots at this great nation to further your own personal agenda. I'm not alone, and thus, my fellow FReepers have been invited to the party.

Enjoy! Cheers, narby!

Comparing Lindbergh to Jane Fonda is not a bad parallel.

Though Lindbergh had some military experience, his loyalty to America was certainly suspect, and his opinions should be taken in that light.

Thanks for pinging a few others. I wanted to get the feedback of some folks with military experience and understanding.

He's got no overwhelming preponderance of evidence to back his assertions up and anything that we use from Official Sources he'll poo-poo as "government propaganda." Engaging in a discussion with him on this subject would be a waste of time. No matter what or how voluminous the evidence that you present; he's already shown that his mind is locked in on his thesis and he will not change it.

"Human beings used for experiments were nicknamed "maruta" or "logs" because the cover story given to the local authorities was that Unit 731 was a lumber mill. Logs were inert matter, a form of plant life"

Always the first step prior to making murder acceptable....dehumanize the group you want to kill.
Call them subhuman, a clump of cells, or vegetables, and then kill them.

Thanks all for chiming in against this despicable attempt to accuse our military heroes of atrocities without a shred of objective evidence to back it up.

I and others pinged you because, IMO, and I know for others as well, we are tired of the Kerrys and Hagels and Murthas of the world accusing, lying, deserting, and discrediting our military. As we know, just because Lindbergh was a 'Republican', like Hagel and other Republican cowards, it does not excuse him from being wrong and anti-military. Lindbergh was about Lindbergh, and he never denounced his association with Goehring, and the Third Reich.

It's frustrating enough to feel helpless about the Hagels of the world, but when some anonymous coward tosses out baseless and despicable accusations against our military hereos of WWII without any facts to back it up right here on Free Republic, then I believe it is our duty to defend and reject such treachery.

Thank you for being such great FReepers, let's do our duty here and take care of business in Jim's house.

I think some people are not near as educated as they think.

And they might have more degrees than me/us also ;)
