WASHINGTON, March 3 Three of the leading Republican presidential candidates on Saturday denounced one of their partys best-known conservative commentators for using an antigay epithet when discussing a Democratic presidential contender at a gathering of conservatives here.
The remarks by Ann Coulter, an author who regularly speaks at conservative events, were sharply denounced by the candidates, Senator John McCain of Arizona, Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. Their statements came after Democrats, gay rights groups and bloggers raised a storm of protest over the remarks.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference before an overflow crowd on Friday, Ms. Coulter said, I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word faggot, so I so kind of an impasse, cant really talk about Edwards.
Mr. Edwardss aides responded with an e-mail message that attacked Ms. Coulter and urged supporters to donate to Mr. Edwardss campaign. John was singled out for a personal attack because the Republican establishment knows he poses the greatest threat to their power, said his campaign manager, David E. Bonior. Since they have nothing real to use against him, Coulters resorting to the classic right-wing strategy of riling up hate to smear a progressive champion.
Ms. Coulter, asked for a reaction to the Republican criticism, said in an e-mail message: Cmon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean.

Thank God she didn't call Al Gore a fat, snake oil salesman...
Your comment is right on. A comment that makes more sense than I have heard lately.
Yes, well said, Cowboy Bob. And, let me add: ditto!
It's because of statements like this the country remains is in such an idiotic PC culture. What do you think is "helpful" by kow towing to liberal whims by expanding a PC fantasy land of redefining words to aviod hurting people's feelings?!
After all, protecting feelings are more important than labeling something for what it really is...< /holier-than-thou>
What's worse? Rush constantly referring to Edwards as "The Breck Girl" or Coulter's remark? They are both commentators...get over it. Also, I recall the left - Michael Moore, Gore...referring to the "extra chromosome Right wing" and other such invectives.
Edwards is effeminite....the faggots themselves name some of their groups "queer nation" and the like.
call a spade a spade.
Yes, and wouldn't you know it. We now find out Trent Lott was just complimenting Rev Al Sharptons relatives. Haha ...so good
Worse than RINOs are the democrats in YouTube commenting on the video (190,000 viewers) who are masking as republicans and posting suggestions that "'all gays in america should be killed' and 'God Bless Ann Coulter and Bush'" with the purpose of getting readers of the comments to believe that they really are republicans posting that crap which could result in much more violence than Ann Coulter's comment which was directed at the issue of "Bad Word Rehab". Democrats will do anything to win. They will pretend to be republicans cite violence against gays, go into their room and secretly pray that violence will occur just so that they can point their finger at Ann Coulter and say "see what you republicans did?"
They are nasty and need to be Freeped and exposed.

You sound like Homer Simpson. Speaking is not thinking.
Listening to C-SPAN Morning Journal call-ins. What a smug self righteous PC bunch! "Brownshirting" (referenced earlier on this thread) sums up their attitude:
Un-PC people should be SILENCED!
(Hey, you DU-libs: don't like `faggot'? "Faggie" sounds much more descriptive!)
OBTW, callers say Maher wanting Cheney dead is OK.
It's obvious most C-SPAN callers have WAY too much time on their hands!
Do you guys honestly think Duncan Hunter or Sam Brownback or Newt Gingrich or any other 'right' candidate for President is going to cheer on Ann Coulter for calling a presidential candidate a 'faggot'? You really think they're going to go "Yahooooo! You go Ann!"
When they criticize her, will you call them spineless RINO weasels?
Referring to someone as a 'faggot' is an unacceptable and unfunny slur that is just not used in common society, like the derogatory terms for blacks, Jews, Italians, etc.
It's one thing for us in our Internet anonymity to freely call the opposition every hateful term in the book, but YOU DON'T do it publically to a public figure, especially a married man with children, who as far as anyone knows isn't even a homosexual.
If Ann were a man, wouldn't Edwards have every right to knock his teeth down his throat for that comment? Would any of you guys stand for someone calling you that publically? Of course not, you'd kick their ass!
Ann was way out of bounds, and I hate Edwards and the Dems and the left as much as anyone here. Leave the childish Michael Moore bullsh*t to their side, please?
They don't have to criticize her. She has a right to say what she said. We shouldn't be trying to get candidates for President to blast every joke ever told out there by a conservative. The RATS don't apologize for Rosie O'Donnell and no daggone Republican worth his salt would attack Ann Coulter, ever.
I thought she said she COULDN'T talk to Edwards, so she never had a chance to deliver a slur.

He's actually one of the more prominent conservative bloggers.
Go Ann!!!
LOL. What would you if some loudmouth referred to you as a 'faggot' in public? Seriously, what would you do? I'd like to know. I know what I'd do.
It's completely unacceptable, and insanely stupid for a pundit I wish I could defend.
Origin of fagot (faggot): Contemptible Woman
Probably.
But Ann has performed a more important service here. She forced the candidates who are utterly spineless and most likely to cave in to the forces of PC and thought control to self-identify. A vote for any of the three of these people is a vote for tyranny and slavery. Simple as that.
Thanks again, Ann.
Will you say the same about Duncan Hunter when he criticizes her?
