McCain-hating and Romney-bashing have been pretty much equal-opportunity pastimes around CPAC this year.
Rudy, on the other hand, has gotten mostly a free pass. And, today, his speech was filled to capacity with folks waiting in the hallway to get in. There were also dense crowds around all the TVs in the exhibit halls. The charm offensive is strong, indeed. People just love listening to him.
I took some video of conservatives quite mesmerized by the Mayor, so I'm working on getting that up. They were doing crowd control outside the hall in which he was speaking. Many of those folks crowding the hall are pro-life, social conservatives who just can't resist him, despite the policy differences. I don't think Rudy will remain unattacked, as he was this week, but the feel-good factor is big for him, no matter what kind of conservative he's talking to.
Today, he talked about leadership, security, toughness, and Reagan to a crowd who's looking for a leader in the image of Reagan in a time that needs security. It was a good pitch, and there were more people listening than have listened to anything at CPAC this week.

Suspect away! My motive is simple - inform people of what Rudy has said and done. How awful.
Fred Thompson would likely be the frontrunner had he fought for and won the governorship in Tennessee after he left the Senate. Instead he decided to sign on to be a token conservative voice on the increasingly bad Law & Order.
Does anyone know why he chose this path? I know that the current Dem governor of Tennessee is very popular now, but so too was Thompson, and its likely that Thompson would have beaten Bredesen back in 2002.
The funny bone! So tell me again what you think of gungrabbers running for POTUS?
Yes, narses is a spammer. No one pays her any mind anymore.
She even gains votes for Rudy!!!
Her spam is like a bad commercial.
Ahhh, namecalling. Too funny.
If not for tax cuts, Roberts and Alito, there wouldn't be much to speak of for Bush and pushing the conservative agenda.
To be fair, those two are big ones (especially judges), but he's been a complete disaster on immigration and he betrayed conservatives on racial preferences.
Spammer is name calling! Hahaha ... what do you call someone who posts the same thing ad nauseum?
YOU of all people are concerned about namecalling? That's just... well, amazing.
You can take me off your ping list too carlo3b. I think Rudy sucks. Authoritarian gun grabbers are dangerous and that's what Rudy is.
Authoritarian gun grabbers are dangerous and that's what Rudy is.Bingo. Worth repeating:
Authoritarian gun grabbers are dangerous and that's what Rudy is.Tuesday, June 20, 2000 MAYOR GIULIANI AND SPEAKER VALLONE ANNOUNCE CITY LAWSUIT AGAINST GUN INDUSTRY
I didn't know that about bit about handgun registration. More and more it seems a vote for Giuliani (from me) would be entirely a vote against the Democrat candidate rather than an enthusiastic endorsement of Rudy.
"Does anyone know why he chose this path?"
No, but maybe money?
Sadly I think a vote for Rudy IS a vote FOR a Democrat. Ask Mario Cuomo.
BEcause his daughter was dying, dimbulb.
Some of you should LOOK UP STUFF before you shoot your mouth off.
BTW, you say Rudy is a patriot - tell us about his military service then. Can you?
Ex-presidents earn tons of money after they leave office. I'm just a bit puzzled as to why he opted out of politics. I am not well-versed as to how conservative he really is, but I would have loved to have someone with his commanding presence out there for the GOP in 2008.
More name-calling. It's a habit with you, isn't it?
You're a bad, bad man. I'm going to ping forty of my closest friends to warn them about you. And nobody's going to say a word to me about pinging re-enforcements. Because I'll be pinging the good guys. And that's a-okay.
The same thing was said about Jim Jones...appears your ready to swallow the purple kool-aid also.
