Because thats the universally accepted dating method and as such would be more widely understood than if I'd used the Jewish year.

Personally I'd prefer a year based on some important geological event like the Toba eruption rather than a religion or person based system which isn't likely to mean anything in a few thousand years.

The universally accepted dating method is from the birth of Christ, Before Christ and Anno Domini Nostri Iesu Christi, After Christ. All books and media histroically and to date use this designation.

You never heard "BCE" and CE" before a few years ago. It was developed out of whole cloth as a "more neutral term".

However, both the true and the developed alternative are anchored in the same event in the same time.

So, why bother? Does the reference to Christ bother you?

But Moses did write the first Linux kernel, right?

Actually, he just delivered it.

It was only ten instructions long, because that was the capacity of the monolithic memory of the time.

Use whatever method you prefer.
Year 2332 of the Jewish calender is just as valid.

But what I'm trying to find out is why. What''s the point in just using different letters? Both sets refer to the same event, regardless of the numbering system you use to pinpoint the event. Either before the event or after the event needs no numbers at all.

Why would someone want to change a referral system used for centuries, one that every one is familiar with, one that simply works to place an event either before or after the reference event?

Any change of a historical and globally well known reference must be based on some sensible reason. What is it?

Thanks for the ping, stockpirate.
Hawass filed an official complaint to the Egyptian attorney general of Egypt against a Cairo high school for teaching the students that it was the Israelites who built the pyramids. Hawass, prominent figure in Egyptian culture and around the Arab world, criticized the school curriculum for "insisting that the Jews built the pyramids and highlighting the fact that those who refused to partake in the building were physically tortured."
There's been a silly idea making the leftist rounds that slavery didn't exist in the world prior to the colonial period in North America. People who deny that it existed are not scholars. Thank you for your time.

Hawass is correct regarding the Israelites -- the pyramids they worked on were in the Fayyum, made of mud brick, and dating to the Middle Kingdom period of Egypt.

To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list. Thanks.

Ask them to take a look at the Laws of Hammurabi..
They deal extensively with the obligations, rights and duties of slaves.. and slave owners.

Who cares whether the Jews built the pyramids? The point is to keep saying it over and over, and savor the typical rage-filled reaction of Arabs.

Hopefully, they will then do themselves a mischief...

Hogwash is a political appointee with some power over Egyptian antiquities. He manages to get himself filmed in every documentary BUT has found ZIP himself. No credibility; just a boated ego - like a Democratic presidential candidate..

Post enlightenment hatred for a certain historical event.
