Perhaps, being in the UK, you can be forgiven for not knowing that one of the current news stories in this country is that an actor on Grey's Anatomy has been lambasted for making untoward comments about "faggots."
As part of his penance (to save his job and acting career) the actor has pledged to go to rehab.
Ms. Coulter made a joke about that. In the course of which she inserted a mention of the Edwards campaign. She said, paraphrasing:
Id say something about John Edwards, but if you say faggot you have to go to rehab.
It was an OBVIOUS joke. No sane person thinks Edwards is gay. No sane person thinks Coulter is a gay basher. It was an OBVIOUS joke, pointing out the absurdity of going to rehab for using such a word.
You can be forgiven for not getting it. But most of the posters here should have been aware of it. And it has been pointed out on this thread and most of the others that have been posted about this phony outrage.
And, yes, I believe that anybody who can't see it as a joke, and worse, who insist on claiming it was a direct slur (or hate speech) against Edwards is just plain stupid.
Or they have another agenda. Which a lot of people do have around here these days.
They don't want to get it. That would deprive them of an opportunity to feel superior and self-righteous.
