Public figures, including politicians, seldom sue because they must prove malice and that the statement made is patently untrue.

In the meantime, the burden of proof is not on Edwards. He cannot disprove a negative. If someone believes he is a homosexual he cannot prove otherwise. That is why it is a "cheap shot."
