MANHATTAN, Kan. Former President Bill Clinton said Friday sanctions against Iran were working better than people think and questioned whether a military strike would work to end its nuclear program. He argued that two-thirds of Iran's population wants a moderate government and that sanctions could have some influence on the nation's powerful clerics.
"We may not have to go to war, and we may not have a disaster," he told about 9,000 gathered at Kansas State University. "You need to talk to everybody before you bomb them. In other words, if you're going to fight with somebody _ I don't care what you don't have in common _ you should talk first."
The former president's comments answered audience questions following his 45-minute lecture. His remarks touched on a wide range of topics, including the need to improve health care and the economy in the United States and alleviate poverty abroad.
Officials from the United States and other major powers have been discussing imposing new sanctions against Iran over its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment. The U.N. Security Council imposed sanctions in December, but the Bush administration hasn't ruled out military action.
"We should be talking to the Iranians," Clinton said. "Attacking them is a whole different kettle of fish."

["You obviously have no clue."]
Really?...who's the front runner to win the Democratic Party's nomination for the next President of the US...teach me something...In short, use your head.
No, you did not curse nor use God's name in vain. And that's good. But you did respond to other posters in an uncivil manner. And that's bad. That's the kind of thing that DUers do when they can't argue coherently or intelligently or logically. If you disagree with someone, that's fine. But to say "bite me" is not only vulgar and impolite, it's also dismissive and makes the listener feel that what they have to say is not only disagreed with but that they, themselves, are not worth listening to. That's wrong and unfair. Do you see now why it's unacceptable in a forum like this which has been built on the premise that everyone's opinion has value? And that the sum of our opinions and thoughts is greater than the whole?
WHO CARES???????????? Bill Clinton is a vile, seedy, vulture who used our Military to cover-up his perverted life he exploited in the Oval Office.
People should still be appalled by such behavior of a grown man who was elected to lead this nation but disrespected the office of the Presidency in such a disgraceful way.
So, Who Cares what Bill Clinton thinks? The man who had numerous chanced to take Osama into custody and didn't. Also, the man who allowed TERRORIST (Arafat) to be in our White House. No, I do "NOT" care what the archaic pervert thinks, nor do I care about his Opinion.
I disagree with your post.
Disagree Disagree Diss.
Mia T posted an excellant article a few weeks ago long read but I absolutly agree with what this ex CIA fellow from Reagan's Admin had to say on his foresight of where this country is going.
END OF SUBJECT Go hunter down.
["But you did respond to other posters in an uncivil manner. And that's bad."]
This is easy (i.e. a cake walk)...try visiting the Balkan threads...things get out hand rather quickly :-)
Did you mean, "go hunt her down?"
Vulgar? LOL
Go read some of the responses above and see what is vulgar.
Martin has a pic of BJC smoking a joint and you call me vulgar for not agree ing....
Better yet not only Mia T's article go read the last two vanities Jim Robinson typed out and come back and kick sand.
I disagree with you and the poster I responded to. Period.
Hey Paige good post.
Go ponce CaliGirl and may God help you.
Seriously, Clinton has been schooled extensively by his close friend (Lincoln bedroom occupier) Anthony Robbins in the use of NLP phrasing so as to always have plausible deniability for anything he says. Watch for the multiple qualifiers in each statement, which the definition of, can be argued.
Not to quibble, but that is a golf tee, and the photo is the cover photo of a book about WJC.
["I disagree with you and the poster I responded to. Period."]
Let me ask you an easy question: Who are the democrats going to (most) likely nominate to be the next president of the US?
Having posed that question, who do you think is going to give Hillary her marching orders?...Answer, Bill.
Need I say anymore?
Yeah Bubba....talking to North Korea....how'd that work out for ya?
I'm not surprised...the Mullahs are probably contributing to Hildabeast's campaign, just like the ChiComs contributed to his.
Hey! The Iranians' check cleared.
Whoo, this is getting to be a bit more trouble than it's worth. However, since you mentioned it:
1. Saying "bite me" is vulgar and dismissive. Yes, in fact, it is. Laughing about having been called on it does not make it less so.
2. The fact that others may behave or speak in a rude and/or vulgar manner does not, in any way, excuse one's own manner. To use "What about what HE did??" or, "Well, he did it FIRST!" as an argument is juvenile, facile, a distraction from the point, and faulty logic.
3. As I stated before, there is no problem with disagreeing with a poster on this forum. In fact, it's educational and fun to read when two intelligent people, with solid facts and passionate opinions, go at it here on FR. But incivility and dismissal is not argument, nor is it reasoned discussion.
Now, you were uncivil to a poster and I called you on it. You didn't appreciate my calling you on it and you were uncivil in response. I called you on that too. You become exasperated with being called on it.
Apparently you are fond of having the last word. As a demonstration and example of civility, I will let you have it. Be my guest.
Of course, she said the opposite to the next group she addressed.
Looks like you've got the last word so far. LMAO.
I dont think thats a joint ,unless they are making golf Tee's out of marijuana.
"Hillary is is not going to ever sniff the interior of the White House."
But if she did, it probably smells alot better than the last time she sniffed it.
