Rep. Jefferson: From The Frying Pan...

Ethics: Rep. William Jefferson now sits on the Homeland Security Committee. How is someone unfit to deal with the nation's finances on Ways and Means qualified to deal with terror and classified intelligence?

Jefferson, who represents New Orleans, redefined the meaning of cold cash when FBI agents found $90,000 hidden in a freezer in his northeast Washington home in August 2005. He'd been the focus of an FBI bribery investigation when that July he was videotaped accepting $100,000 in $100 bills from an FBI informant.

Is a bribee better with secrets? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, leader of the most ethical Congress ever, removed Jefferson from the Ways and Means Committee last year because of the bribery investigation. But now, she said, "homeland security is an appropriate place (for Jefferson) to be."

Jefferson has yet to be officially charged. But if he's convicted, Leavenworth might be an appropriate place to be, not a committee on which a record of bribery automatically makes him a security risk.

As one Republican aide commented: If Jefferson were a private citizen, he'd have trouble getting a job as a security guard until the matter were resolved, much less be entrusted with the nation's secrets.

What's amazing is that the most honest congress in history can't comprehend the ramifications of what they're doing?

So why hasn't he been indicted? Seriously? What are the Bush appointees at DoJ waiting for?

"most ethical" Congress?????Nancy Pelosi needs to seriously rethink this.Rep Jefferson had $90,000 in his freezer!what's to stop him from comprimising national security for a price? And when that happens, will the Speaker take responsiblity?probably not.She is going to get a lot of people killed,in the name of politics.

If it comes to pass again for her to have the chance, will Pelosi be re-elected Speaker of the House by her colleagues?

P.S. Anybody know where we are on the 100 Hour clock?
