Go to the ACU site .. I think you may be creating a flimsy argument .. and you just may be totally hung up on that one issue. I don't like McCain-Feingold, but before it was voted in .. there was no huge hue and cry against it. It was AFTERward, when it was realized how it really all played out after the lawyers dissected it ad nauseaum for loopholes that the reality of the consequences was revealed.

I won't be swayed by your argument .. maybe others will.

Whom are you supporting?

Yea, he has no experience. /s

I never said he didn't have experience. But now that you mention it...I know he was a one-term Senator from Tennessee, right? Does he have any executive experience?

We have been complaining here about all of the dang RINO's and we have a hint of something that is electable (a Hunter that is recognizable).

The Hunter-Thompson comparison is interesting. Duncan has a lifetime 92 after 25 years. During his term in the Senate, Fred Thompson earned an overall rating of 86. Reasonably close, I'd say.

I'm not ruling him out, by any means. But I don't think he's necessarily the dream candidate.

Sorry, the numbers above are ACU ratings. I didn't define that in my post. :)

Look, the "night crawlers" are already out, trashing Fred Thompson!

Discussing Thompson's voting record, etc. is not "trashing him". It's what we're SUPPOSED to do here. Get a grip.

Thank you for posting factual information and reasoned analysis of Thompson. Please ignore the harpies.

McCain-Feingold-Thompson

As I said early on, the McCain-Feingold support gives me pause. Thank you for digging this up. It is pretty much a showstopper for me on Thompson just as McCain-Feingold was for me on McCain. Someone who disrespects the 1st Amendment and our freedom of speech so terribly, and who wants abuse our electoral process to put the protection of incumbents in Congress above everything else, is not worthy of my support or my vote.

What does what transpired between McCain and Thompson 6, 10, 12 years ago when Fred Thompson was a senator have to do with today?

You forgot the /sarcasm tag.

Oh wait, maybe you didn't. So...we're supposed to look at Thompson's Senate term as a qualification for President, but not his actual voting record. Is that it?

At this point, it is very early, and I am still evaluating. I just know who i am NOT voting for. Way to many things could change in the next year.

I am NOT a single issue voter period! I was just throwing out a fact that really upset me with my senator.

I have always said the same thing, but I still did not like my senator's vote.

I have also, said that if Gore had just of demanded that Clinton resign, and he should have done that instead of running up on the Capitol steps and praising him, he would have won the 2000 election.

Fred Thompson is definitely not a RINO, but as my previous senator, I saw a lot of leaning to the middle or left moderate.

He is on my possible list.

Fred was my senator for eight years. He is also an alumus of our local university. We know him well, and are just point out some facts. Even knowing what I know about Fred, I am not ruling out voting for him, if he should run.

I agree. And I don't think the beast will be his running mate. I believe he will choose the obamanation.

I'm excited about the possibility of a Thompson run.

Some are destined to crawl with the serpents as that's their lot in life. They wiggle a big game kinda like the school yard taunt, all jive no substance.

I agree with all that you have said about Fred. Having said that, He one that I could hold my nose and vote for, as he was my senator for eight years, and went to school in my town. We here in West Tenn. know him pretty well.

There's a reason for that, and it wasn't Northern benevolence.

Yes, I know why. But I agree with you, I don't like hijacking threads either. I'd be happy to engage on this issue on a more relevant thread. Feel free to ping me.
