What did I tell you three weeks ago? It is before labor day and look how big a splash Fred has made in ninety minutes. I'm getting old enough that I can't remember what I had for breakfast today.
If you told me that Fred Thompson might be the solution to the rift in the conservative moment this year, I don't remember it, but that doesn't mean you didn't suggest it.
I guess the first thing to determine is whether he will run. Then we need to examine his positions on the issues. If his positions are acceptable to most of the factions in the conservative movement, then that is great.
Otherwise we were headed for a trainwreck.

And it was an actor who killed out best president ever. I remember right after Reagan was elected, a German woman told a US Army General that it was really terrible that an actor was elected President. The General replied, "At least he can act like a President."
Remember that the Georgia peanut Carter was then President and he sure didn't act much like a president.

South Carolina straw vote results:
Arizona Sen. John McCain: .............................164
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani:...162
California Rep. Duncan Hunter: ...................... 158
Tight 3-some ... I'm trying to imagine what would evolve if Fred gets in.

Howlin, you have to admit, this whole "Hunter - Thompson" thing gives us a historic opportunity; the time when no one knows who's on top of the ticket.
"I'm pumped! I'm voting for that guy from Oregon and Thompson!"

I could support that...
I think the question needs to be who would ADD to the ticket most... Ideologically Newt would be great... (could we somehow lower the pitch of his voice though... When he gets excited he sounds like Chris Matthews - fingernails on a chalk board)

Straw polls are pretty uncharacteristic. Giuliani has a 20 point lead over Mc Cain now, in National polls. Romney is single digit and Hunter still isn't even listed as a contender. He is listed under the "Other" category.
I saw the SC Straw poll on FOX, and they pointed out the most recent National poll shows a more accurate view of what voters are really thinking nationally.

I was a little girl, living in another country, when Reagan was first elected.
I remember an aunt lamenting about how she hoped Carter would win because he was a peanut farmer.
My uncles laughed and laughed about the fact that Americans had elected an actor.
Little did I or they know....:)
