Long, but worth reading in its entireity.

Key passage:

"The new president, therefore, will be under terrific pressure to devote the nation’s military and security resources to the construction of Fortress America. If European governments can’t finance their own defence, as indigenous Muslim populations turn multiculturalism into a bad joke, and a newly aggressive Russia exerts pressure on EU foreign and domestic policy, well, that’s their problem. They wanted to be rid of American influence, and we are prepared to oblige...When those crises burst upon the European and world scenes, frantic calls to the White House are likely to produce ‘Dial 1 if you never defamed the US, otherwise hang up’."

Socialism is all the rage.

Sen. DeMint was at our local GOP meeting last month and addressed this issue. He called it the slippery slope to socialism, the audience nearly shouted "it's a ski slope".

DeMint talked about something Reagan said in the late 70's or early 80's about how America was headed toward socialism.

The libs have to remind each other every now and then that the welfare checks will stop if the government goes down the tubes. Otherwise, their feelings would be nothing but pure hatred for America.

...Democrats will either nominate Hillary Clinton (the Rodham will be dropped for the duration of the campaign), a candidate of the centre-Left; the very-Left Barack Obama...

Wow, does this writer have it wrong. Hitlery is about as far left as you can get, and a total liar about it. There is NOTHING centrist about her IN REALITY AND TRUTH.

No... America will step in whenever necessary and save Europe's butt. Again. We will expect, and receive, little in the way of praise and gratitude.

We'll protect innocent people wherever possible, because that's what we do.

Americans won’t want their new president to withdraw from the UN, ...

Oh yes we WILL.

When the Dhimmified Liberal Elitist leadership is leading the gays and outspoken women to the beheadings for slaughter, like sheep, who will they beg to save you??

Their Messiah, the Goracle??
That GOD they don't believe in?
The Dead American Soldier that they sold out on the battlefield??

Luckily, one way or the other, I won't live to see it...

I did not see this correction coming. I am retired and follow the market very closely since I am heavily invested in stocks and bonds. I guess I am not the only one that got caught flat footed.

Many anti-Americans with whom I talk are counting on the UN and other multinational agencies to replace the US as the keeper of world order.

ROTFLMAO. It's hard to fathom people who are that damn stupid.

I'll stand by Poland, Israel and those Eastern European countries that are breaking free from the yoke of Russia, but I'm about ready to tell the rest of the world to KMA.

I agree with everything except wanting to stay with the UN.

Europe needs a lesson that will make them stand up for something again, such as European culture. It's been too long.

The majority of Americans are not sophisticated enough to understand let alone see, the impotence of the UN. They are suckers too easily manipulated emotionally to consider not throwing our money in black holes like African AIDS concerns or strengthening Malaki's Palestinian Authority.

We are too brainwashed by green-communists to allow us to develop our own oil/coal resources. The major corporations will not stop selling our capital overseas and relocating all Software Engineering, manufacturing and fabrication to places like China and India.

Finally if by some miracle we woke up and were willing to do what it takes we'd be convinced by the MSM that we are morally wrong for protecting ourselves and becoming more self reliant.

People may say they want to isolate but they won't do what is necessary.

Thanks for posting this. I sent this vignette to Mad Ivan this morning on another thread (sorry if it seems like I'm patting myself on the back):

Thanks for posting this, Ivan. Hope this doesn't sound like a broken record, but a Democrat president following Bush could be disastrous for Europe, perhaps the world.

The Democrats have painted themselves into a corner on the use of military force. When the next flareup occurs, too many conservatives will remember how most of Europe abandoned us in Iraq, let alone actively thwarted our mission. I can see an American response, to wit: hey guys, we've carried the load for the last 60-70 years, and we don't have the cash with all these Baby Boomers retiring.

If Iraq wasn't important enough, I'll be hard pressed to come up with a bigger conflict that will unite America.

America is aging, and those that remembered the Great Depression, WW2, Korea, and the Cold War, are turning over the levers of power to those whose memories are bereft of those hazardous times.

When weeks of Congressional energy are spent on "nonbinding resolutions", the rest of the world needs to ask itself, "who's going to fight the bad guys?". Cagey wolves like China and Russia are licking their chops as they survey the menu for their next feast.

al Qaeda's probably trying to make a quick strike before Anna Nicole is planted in Bermuda. They have to figure that 80% of America is paying attention to that and American Idol.

As for myself, I've got March Madness to deal with (go Zags!). ;^)

I think I'll send Mr. Seltzer a little note/email. Thanks again for your thread!

Very good article and an entirely possible future. Which is bad news for us Europeans but wholly deserved. It's remarkable that only two generations have passed and we have totally forgotten what WW2 did to Europe and how much we have the US to thank for. The EUs best hope is the start building up our defenses, and fast, and do everything possible to make sure Turkey don't slip down into muslim fundamentalism.

Me, I'd feel awful to abandon and desert my native country, but I think that I might soon have to throw myself on the mercy of the US and hope you will let me in to your great country.

He should have also mentioned what the world would be like if the US didn't expend tremendous amounts of Carbon Dioxide and 'Green House Gases' to help stabilize the price of the fuel every economy on the planet runs on. It is a more serious situation on the other side of the globe in Asia where Australia, Taiwan, Japan and other Asian allies know what life would be like without the US defense shield. The next President should give Europe a taste of life without the US by abandoning the Balkans along with Iraq. Then Europe's Southern border will once again become a hot zone for Muslim and European conflict.
