According to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker, factory revenue in the worldwide server market grew 5.2 percent year over year to $15.2 billion (U.S.) in the fourth quarter of 2006 (4Q06), marking the third consecutive quarter of positive growth. Worldwide server unit shipment growth was flat in 4Q06 when compared with the year-ago period.
For the full year 2006, worldwide server revenue grew two per cent to $52.3 billion, while worldwide unit shipments grew 5.9 per cent to 7.5 million units. This represents the highest annual server revenue since the market peaked in 2000, IDC said.

Linux servers now represent 11.9 per cent of all server revenue, up more than 1 point over 4Q05. However, after 18 quarters of double-digit shipment growth, Linux server shipments declined 0.8 per cent year-over-year as IT consolidation extends its reach into the open source domain.
Microsoft Windows servers showed positive growth as revenues grew 9.4 per cent and unit shipments grew 5.1 per cent year-over-year. Significantly, quarterly revenue of $5.3 billion for Windows servers represented 34.9 per cent of overall quarterly factory revenue, the single largest revenue segment in the server market.

EPIC or Itanium-based systems grew 71.5 per cent, generating more than $1.1 billion in revenue for the quarter the first time the platform has exceeded $1 billion in revenue in a quarter. In the x86 market segment, AMD's Opteron processor accounted for 20 per cent of all worldwide x86 server revenue for the third consecutive quarter"
As far as I am concerned, the most striking figures from all this is that while Windows servers grew unit sales by 5.1%, unit sales of Linux servers actually declined by .8%, a net 5.9% unit sales growth advantage for Windows.
Today, Windows has the biggest share by both units sold, and by revenue, and Windows is still outgrowing the server market.

Good growth for chip companies.
