Do you remember which reporter put together that terrific biography on Rudy--I can almost grasp her name, I think she was with the NY Post!--that ran in two or three parts, back to his earliest days? It ran after 9/11. He was a tiger way back then and that's what we need now. If our Country can't be kept safe from terrorists, absolutely nothing else is going to matter.

The minute this is posted, I will remember.

Honestly, I wish every politician would steer well clear of social issues.

That is exactly wrong, in my view and in the view of my Church and, I believe, my God.

Politicians have to responsibility to meet social issues head on, not abrogate responsibility and stick their heads in the sand. And as voters, we have the responsibility to support those who are willing to fight for what's right.

Just because government isn't the be-all and end-all doesn't mean we don't have the responsibility to try to get it right, to have just laws in a just society.

Actually, Corin, you're wrong. They have changed alot of things. They have succeeded at making FR a shrill, angry, and unwelcoming website where people are intimidated into not posting and, frankly, leaving. Jim will feel it at the next Freepathon, and after almost nine years here....that's a pretty huge change and a pretty sad state of affairs.

If a had a buck for every time I've seen the Rooty Rooters holding donations over Jim's head, I could at least buy a nice steak dinner. With a good bottle of wine.

I am wondering if ANY Republican will be able to "control the narrative." The media does a pretty fair job of demonizing Republicans and ignoring them when there is anything positive to be reported.

I had hope that Tony Snow would help, but his words disappear just as quickly as the President's. The press is also good at ignoring conservative Senators and Congressmen, military heroes, grateful Iraqis, and thankful Katrina victims.

I agree the President's message doesn't get out the way it should. My only disagreement is that I think whoever the Republican nominee is, he will immediately fall into the Black Hole and we will see no coverage.

My first experience with this was after the democrat convention. Bush was campaigning with McCain on a train through central Florida, and it got ZERO coverage. A Citizen Reporter and I had to start daily threads on what was happening in the campaign (with the help of a friendly and now working elsewhere Reuters reporter) and posted photos of Bush's actual apperances, because so many Freepers thought he was back in Crawford taking naps.

It's just something to think about. Guiliani might capture some press durring the early part of the campaign, but if it looks like he is going to win he will disappear from our TV screens.

I am born and raised in nyc (downtown, now called SOHO). I confess, I have a soft spot in my heart for a rougher nyc, but you are of course correct. NYC in 1990 and 2000 is like night and day. Rudy did an outstanding job - and got some help from a lot of good people.

Nice try, spiffboy, but that's not from 1999. I know those little distinctions go right over your pointy head.

I know what you are talking about but I can't remember her name. He was one of NYC's greatest mayors, though he was limping to the finish line in 2001 before the bad guys hit.

You and Alan will be more than glad to make up the difference, I'm sure; after all, your snotty moralistic smug posts are a big part of why people are upset at this forum.

Let's do it. Bush's first inauguration was one of the highs of my life! We had such a great time. Although the weather was terrible, I remember standing there and crying when Clinton left and Bush took over. WE ALL WERE! And then the great FR party. Those were the great days of FR. Before all the bickering.

Plus, I know Tony Snow, and he took me and my friend for a tour through the FOX Newsroom. We sat in his office and talked for a long time. He's a very nice man. I wonder if he'd take me throught the White House! Guess he's kinda busy now!

I don't care about that - I oppose him for being almost as liberal as Hillary.

And, let me add this, which I've stated many times on FR, JFK would be a Republican if he were alive today.

"Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country" is right out of OUR playbook.

So Rudy deciding in the early 90's in liberal NYC to sound like JFK is hardly the insult you'd like it to appear.

Yes, conservatism in its extreme form is a mental disorder, just like extreme liberalism is a mental disorder.

The far left and the far right both lead to tryanny...marxism or taliban - take your pick.
