Rudy may be the right leader for the right time. We have been a 50-50 nation for way too long, even after our nation was attacked. We need to bridge that divide somehow. Maybe he can do it by combining enough of what appeals to GOPers with enough of what appeals to dems.

Now you're talking! Hatred is NOT what Americans are looking for - making everyone into an enemy. They are looking for someone to bridge the divide and say what a great country we are - without hubris.

Rudy is going to be a very formidable candidate.

LOL. I have to run but can only say, keep up the good work, everyone.

And remember, the better Rudy does in the polls, the more strident about 10-12 freepers will become. Rudy's national frontrunner status is not going to diminish, imo.

Sorry but this guy disagrees with you.

"Statesmen, my dear Sir, may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone, which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free Constitution is pure virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our People in a greater Measure than they have it now, they may change their rulers and the forms of government, but they will not obtain a lasting liberty."
John Adams, The Works of John Adams, Second President of the United States, Charles Francis Adams, editor (Boston: Little, Brown, 1854), Vol. IX, p. 401, dated June 21, 1776.

I think it is pretty safe to say that people in general were quite a bit more socially conservative at the time of the American Revolution, and that conservatism had nothing to do with what any one politician or politician-to-be espoused. I think it would be a safe bet to say that Adams' words reflected what the majority of the populace at the time already believed.

Again, getting back to a point where the majority of Americans actually believe the same as our Founding Fathers won't happen by virtue of electing socially conservative politicians. That's putting the cart before the horse, as they say. That battle must be fought on a much more intimate level, one person at a time. The cultural shift to more socially conservative values won't happen in one fell swoop, no matter how much we might wish it so.

Let's make a deal right now...if Guiliani wins, we go to his inauguration! We'll have to throw our own party, because I doubt FR will throw a party like they did in 2000 (which I was at and which was fabulous), but we can do it! What do ya say! We'll organize it ourselves.

You know, it will be amusing to see how the more vitriolic conservatives will behave if their preferred candidate doesn't become president - Rudy, or Hily or Obama.

After years of insisting we put our differences aside and work on defeating the enemy on the global stage, will they quickly resort to being as bad as the dems are in their nonstop undermining of Dubya?

If so, it will be clear they were talking out of their @sses the whole time. I confess, in some cases it wouldn't surprise me.

I brought up a number of inconsistancies in Giuliani's speech - on the fly, mind you - and there's been no substantive rebuttal. Just attacks.

What kind of fool would bring up FACTS on a thread like this?

You ARE nuts, Spiff...

I love the comments about Rudy "peaking too soon" -- as if he's hit the limit of his support already!

You miss my point dirtboy.

As I have often explained to Evelyn, I do not believe the abortion battle will be won in the courts or in the public policy arena. I have been there and I have marched up Capitol Hill.

But I believe that I will be more effective sending my cash and volunteering my time to the local crisis pregnancy center or working with our ministry to homeless, unwed moms.

We will NEVER end abortion by screaming at one another. It's just not going to happen.

So you and Evelyn can ride your high horse all over FR.

For all your caterwauling, you haven't changed a damn thing.

Well-said. Perhaps those of us who are concerned about social issues should focus within the spheres where our influence is maximized -- in our families, our churches, our communities, just as you said....the "little platoons" as Edmund Burke referred to them.

And I have to add, after 30-plus years since Roe v. Wade, two strongly pro-life presidents over that time (Reagan, W), 12 years of Republican control of the House and 16 years of GOP control of the Senate, how much closer are we to rendering Roe null and void? In retrospect, I think we've been beating our heads against a wall, and the politics of Washington are in such gridlock that the likelihood of making any political progress on this and other so-called socially conservative issues is very unlikely.

I think that the pro-life sentiment is winning throughout the culture. Young women today are much less supportive of abortion than the Baby Boomer women of my generation. With advances in medical imaging, 3D ultrasounds, and the like, more women will be exercising their "choice" to keep their babies. This is all good, and doesn't require winning every election. More than a social conservative in the White House, this nation needs a spiritual revival like in Jonathan Edwards day. If that were to happen (and I wonder how many of the naysayers here are working, teaching, and praying for such a revival), abortion would likely become a thing of the past.

JohnnyZ: The Log Cabinites have gone to CPAC too.

Pyro7480: there are a handful of "conservative" Muslim groups, such as a Muslim free enterprise organization.

They let gays in?

And Muslims?

Whats conservatism coming to. We wouldn't be going down this road if we'd kept women out.

I was of the 'it;s no so important' school of thought for a while, until it became clear that he and his admin just couldn't control the narrative and make its case. Lets not make that mistake again.

I lived in nyc throughout Rudy's tenure as mayor and he won't take any crap from the press corps. HisNY pres conferences were good, and against a very hostile media.

A firm, unapologetic, and clear-speaking GOPer. It's been a while, and I want to see it!

My guess is that as long as they are allowed and encouraged to be nasty and vitriolic - that's what they'll be - no matter who is elected.

Right. Now you think it "will be won" by electing a darling of NARAL who thinks Margaret Sanger is a hero.

So, do you get paid more when you mention "NARAL?"

How much is "Margaret Sanger" worth?

I'm not in a bunker, and sorry, what y'all are brewing up isn't coffee, it's electoral disaster for the GOP.
