Posted on 03/22/2007 1:01:11 AM PDT by Srirangan

Pakistan successfully test-fired on Thursday a nuclear-capable cruise missile with the capability to avoid radar detection, the military said.

The missile, named Babur or Hatf VII, has a range of 700 kilometers (434 miles) and is capable of carrying various types of warheads, including nuclear, the military-run Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate said.

''The test is part of Pakistan's ongoing efforts at consolidating its strategic capability and strengthening national security,'' the directorate said in a statement.

Babur was first tested in 2005. It was test-launched again on Thursday with an enhanced range, a military official said.

"Hillary brings on Bill for a D.C. fundraiser"
By Stephen Dinan and Donald Lambro
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
March 21, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "As the couple stood together on the raised stage at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Mr. Clinton described his wife as someone who already has had the experience in the White House and in the world, noting that she visited 82 countries as first lady and has been proved correct on her health care proposals from early in his administration.

For her part, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, New York Democrat, joked that she thinks it would be illegal to name her husband secretary of state if she becomes president, as she said some have asked her to do. But she said she "can make him ambassador to the world, because we have a lot of work to do to get our country back in the standing it should be.""

"Iran 'willing to act illegally'"

Khamenei sounded a defiant tone as the UN prepared to meet
Iran's supreme leader has warned his country could pursue nuclear activities outside international law if illegal action is taken against it.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's comments came as the UN Security Council prepared to discuss further sanctions against Iran to try to halt its nuclear programme.

Tehran has already rejected as illegitimate an earlier UN resolution imposing sanctions against it.

It denies Western claims that it is seeking to produce nuclear weapons.

It says its nuclear programme is purely for peaceful purposes.

A draft resolution containing additional sanctions was agreed last week by ambassadors of the council's five permanent members.

New measures

In a nationally televised speech, Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran was determined to pursue its nuclear programme, regardless of international action.

"Until today, what we have done is in accordance with international regulations," he was quoted by the Associated Press news agency as saying.

"But if they take illegal actions, we too can take illegal actions and will do so."

Ayatollah Khamenei did not elaborate on what he meant."

"5 'well-educated' kids put in state custody"
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | March 22, 2007 | Bob Unruh

Posted on 03/22/2007 2:09:49 AM PDT by Man50D

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Five "well-educated" children have been ordered into state custody by a court that applied to a second family a ruling taking a 15-year-old homeschooler from her family and sending her to a psychiatric ward.

The action fulfills a dire forecast from a human rights group that the government's success in the first case would encourage officials to act against other families in Germany.

The newest ruling comes from a court in Saxony and affects five members of the Brause family, according to officials with the International Human Rights Group.

Its president, Joel Thornton, earlier had told WND that, "There is an increased fear among homeschoolers about whether their children are next," after Melissa Busekros, 15, was removed from her home and ordered first to a psychiatric ward, then a foster home, because of her "school phobia."

Thornton told WND the ruling in Saxony means that while the government officials have not yet taken the five children from the family home, they have permission to do so at any time.

"Apparently, Germany has decided that it can determine when and where the children go to school; and where they live while doing so," noted Thornton. "The youth welfare, supported by the police force, can take the children out of the home at any time with or without notice."

The decision, according to the IHRG, said the well-being of the children "can only be achieved by their attendance in the public schools."

According to a CBN report, the legal custody of Rosine, Jotham, Kurt-Simon, Lovis and Ernst Brause was taken away from parents Bert and Kathrin and given to the local youth welfare office.

The parents reportedly can regain custody of their children only by placing them in public school."

The Regional Security Office at U.S. Embassy Islamabad reported the following:

Protests in Pakistan over the proceedings against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudry continue in Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar. On March 17, demonstrations in Lahore drew 10-12,000 people. At one point, lawyers began to throw stones and other items at police, who responded in kind and ultimately resorted to baton charges, tear gas and arrests to subdue the crowd. Sporadic demonstrations continued throughout Lahore on March 19, but no roadblocks or other disruptions where reported. Overall, the protests have been minimally violent compared to those seen in the recent past, especially compared to last year's demonstrations over the Danish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

Protests in Karachi and Peshawar continued throughout the weekend as well, but have been more subdued. A Karachi Bar Assocaiton demonstration planned for March 19 was postponed to March 20 due to rain. In the Northwest Frontier Province, lawyers continued to protest on March 17 and 19 with symbolic one-hour strikes at courts in Peshawar and other key cities in the province.

A nationwide "wheel jam protest," during which no traffic will be allowed to transit major city routes and commercial activities will cease, has been announced for March 21, when a Supreme Judicial Council hearing was originally scheduled to occur. However, on March 20, the Supreme Judicial Council hearing was rescheduled for April 3.

Foreigners have not been targeted by the protests.

Iranian navy starts war games in the Gulf

Published: 03.22.07, 12:54 / Israel News

Iran's navy started more than a week of war games in the Gulf on Thursday using small vessels carrying missile launchers and tactical submarines, state television reported.

The exercises are the latest in a series of manoeuvres staged by Iran's military in the Gulf region, where the United States has deployed a second aircraft carrier, a move widely seen as a warning to Tehran over its nuclear ambitions. State television said the war games staged by Iran's regular naval forces "Showed their defensive power for protecting the Persian Gulf". It said the manoeuvres would last until March 30. (Reuters)

Bombers planned to blow up ships in Morocco -papers

Mar 22, 2007 — RABAT (Reuters) - At least 12 would-be suicide bombers planned to blow up foreign ships at Casablanca port and other Moroccan landmarks, top security officials were quoted as saying on Thursday.

They said at least six of the suspected bombers were still on the run, but others were arrested after their presumed leader blew himself up on March 11 to stop police taking him alive.

Interior Minister Chakib Benmoussa, his deputy Fouad Al Himma and Benabdallah Oumzazi, a top ministry official, briefed local newspaper editors on Tuesday night on what the media called a "lucky accident" that helped foil a mass bombing plot.

Abdelfattah Raydi, the 23-year suspected leader of the group of bombers, walked into an Internet cafe in Casablanca's Sidi Moumen slum on March 11 with another suspected bomber.

Raydi, who had worn an explosives belt for four days to avoid police catching him alive, detonated the device when the cafe owner shut the door and called authorities after he saw him consulting a jihadist Web site, newspapers said.

The papers quoted officials as saying the attacks were not scheduled for March 11, but gave no more details.

Youssef Khoudri, a 18-year-old mint seller who was accompanying Raydi, was wounded and arrested by police. Both lived in Douar Escuela, Casablanca's poorest slum.

"Investigations showed that 12 suicide bombers among 30 terrorists linked to March 11's Casablanca plot were prepared to attack economic and security targets including blowing up foreign ships at Casablanca port and tourism facilities in Marrakesh, Essaouira and Agadir," wrote al Ahdath al Maghribia daily. The three cities are Morocco's main tourist destinations.

The Arabic-language newspaper cited among other targets unspecified security facilities in Casablanca, where suicide bombers killed 45 people in 2003.

"POISON" ATTACKS

The papers also quoted officials as saying the would-be bombers planned to use "poison" in their planned attacks, showing a change in the country's home-grown terror......[MORE]
