And as long as that middle includes strong national defense and fiscal conservatism, a lot of us won't be displeased by that.
Strong on national defense..you mean, like this gem?
"Good morning. It has been a week since the terrible tragedy that happened last Sunday at the Empire State Building [Palestinian Terror Attack]. And even as we grieve for the families and our hearts and prayers go out to them, perhaps we can use this senseless tragedy to re-energize the fight for gun control."

McCain authored the McCain Feingold anti-free speech "campaign reform". He also organized the gang of 14, which torpedoed the Constitutional Opion on the judges. And he also cares more about the terrorists than the American people -- he authored and pushed through the "terrorist protection bill" giving the terrorists US Constitutional rights and not even allowing "degrading" treatment -- no panties on the heads of terrorists, better to have the US be nuked.
How can anyone support McCain -- that's my question.

Hey, it's OK, huh? I remember when I was a pup here,, drove folks wild with Simon and then mcClintock postings..
at least they had some conservative credentials ... ;-)
To: Torie
You're right about that -- Mitt has taken every position possible about gay marriage, I think. He's either getting bad advice or he's wishy washy and either one shows a lack of judgment.

I was surprised by that as well; I mean, don't you have to WIN some supporters before you trash your opponent? :-)

Considering the threats to stay home last November that social conservatives made on this forum alone, why in the world would Republicans of any stripe depend on them for the vote? After the November debacle, the handwriting was on the wall that the GOP was moving to the middle. And as long as that middle includes strong national defense and fiscal conservatism, a lot of us won't be displeased by that.
Yeah, November was a wake-up call. And if the purists on FR are an indicator - they are not a reliable vote and so they need to be written off. But I think beyond that - the middle holds the power right now - because of the times we are in. So I think that those who pay attention to where the moderates and independents are in the next year - are going to do better. It's not always like this - but it is right now, imo.

I don't see where Guiliani's position on gay marriage/gay unions etc differs from Pres. Bush's.
