You didn't deny my point. I have seen plenty of loathing of socons on FR lately.

I don't see the loathing you see. I see a frustration with he lack of political intelligence and suicidal "teach them a lesson/stay at home" pouting among the far right.

I would guarantee you that the Rudy crowd would enthusiastically support a Hunter candidacy because they're team players in for the long haul.

The "true conservatives" want their rings kissed and demand they be pandered to. This has been going on for a long time now.

I guarantee you that many young Republicans are getting tired of the preaching and think a guy like Rudy may be their ticket.

Don't be surprised if the smears on Rudy don't get traction.

By the way, certain state statutory rights and duties attend civil unions in each state where they are passed, and vary in each state. So it is not a matter of private contract.

That's a matter of postion, quite frankly.

I knew you didn't have anything. Again.

Once again, do you deny posting that comment?

In my case, in the case of one poster, in percipitated monetary traction. But that is just me.

I'm not saying it's normal, just that they have no need for the legislation that they constantly cry for.

Well, I gave up the misguided attempt to have you back up your denials.

So here is your post. I know you will quibble "foot" with "boot", but meaning is otherwise quite clear:

It's not going to be DNC Lite; it's going to be a more moderate conservative party though; you all have had your foot on our necks for too long.

This country has to be governed in the middle; the world has moved on from the 50's.

The Contract with America will unite this party again. But we're not going to let you make abortion and guns the big issues this time around.

Let me repeat that:

we're not going to let you make abortion and guns the big issues this time around.

Context for that? None.

Rudi G. is indeed very slightly ahead of the large and well fractured field. However; about 80% of respondents voted for someone other than Rudi.

The big news in this poll is the quite unexpected surge of Duncan Hunter beating the numbers for Romney, McCain, and Brownbeck.

My take is that Rudi G. benefits from almost total name ID and probably is scoring well with any GOP voter whose only issue is terrorism and who does not care at all about the Second Amendment or religious social issues. However, that description probably only applies to the roughly 1/5 of the voters that supported him tonight in Spartanburg.

One needs to ask where all the non Guiliani/McCain voters will go as Brownbeck, Romney, Huckabee, Tancredo, Ron Paul and others fade away or simply never catch on as the case may be.

If all those non Guiliani/McCain votes are redistributed to those two RINO's with big name ID, then they will probably be the GOP ticket.

However, if all the votes cast for folks to the clear right of Guiliani/McCain coalesce around Duncan Hunter (or any ONE conservative) then that conservative becomes the new front runner and the nomination becomes his to lose.

There is another thing that needs to be seriously considered in selecting a GOP nominee. If we nominate a RINO who is clearly outside the Reagan conservative mold i.e. Guiliani, McCain or Rommney; then the base is going to stay home in total disgust and frustration and whom ever the Democrat party nominee becomes will win. Want poll numbers on that happening? How about the 2006 general election for Congress. Is that a big enough sample to be meaningful?

I am delighted to see Duncan Hunter doing incredibly better than could have been hoped for. It is, admittedly, too early to know yet if he will be the conservative hope, but tonight has to be incredibly encouraging.

I simply don't see the GOP base turning out for any nominee who wants to do one or more of the following, tax, spend, take guns, kill babies, lose the war and particularly not anyone who supports amnesty for illegal aliens. In case there are any slow readers here; AMNESTY is anything that does not require them all to take their anchor babies and go back to Mexico.

"And you're absolutely right, star power isn't the only part of it, but I do think it's playing an important role at this stage."

I agree. Let's wait and see what the reaction to Rudy's CPAC speech is tomorrow. That should give us an idea of how important star power is with the southern conservatives.

C'mon, Howlin. You said I didn't have your post.

I did. You sure had the bluster down. Except you were never willing to deny you made the post. Very telling.

So, now, explain the context of this:

we're not going to let you make abortion and guns the big issues this time around.

We're waiting.

There is a Gallup poll, but it is also a primary poll. It has an 18% "rule him out" response from Republicans and Republican leaning independents. Link

If a poll on the eventual national election asking that question has been taken, I have not seen it.

Thanks for making such a big deal out of this and proving, once again, that you lied, because you said

You're the one who finds conservative convictions to be a boot on your neck, eh?

I never said any such thing!
