With 71 of 75 precincts reporting, Giuliani had garnered 123 votes. California Rep. Duncan Hunter was running in second place, with 110 votes, and Arizona Sen. John McCain at 86 votes, according to county GOP officials.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had 59 votes, Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback had 68 votes and Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee rounded out the front-runners, with 18 votes.

I think the "true conservatives", as they are called here have done enough damage along with the Neo-cons

Nothing like giving the forum a good shove to the left, all in the name of pragmatism, of course. ;-)
methinks some folks here would rather have muzzled forum backing middle of the roaders cuz then thye wouldn;t have to work and fight as hard for silly things like principles and such. jmo
Not from what I have heard from a fair number of them. Rudy's candidacy has allowed them to express their loathing for social conservative issues.
hey, don't go knockin' good porn. "HA!", then I'll get upset! "HA!"
LOL! ;-)
I have to admit this a good showing by Hunter! Bravo!
All business in that ticket and they'd sure make the enemy nervous.
:~ D
a GOP presidential winner, needs the middle to take it. Bush maximized the base turnout and margin in 2004, and still won by just a 65K vote swing in Ohio. If our base alone were as powerful as you claim, Bush would have won 45 states in 2004.
Oh, bullcrap. Rudy was campaigning like a big dog in SC.
Y'all ain't even good liars.
In late September, Hunter was the guest of honor at a black-tie dinner in a hall at Washington's Union Station, where the hawkish defense group the Center for Security Policy presented him with its annual "Keeper of the Flame" award.
Among those lauding him at the Center for Security Policy banquet that evening was Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who said the Pentagon relies on Hunter's "wisdom, his leadership, his experience and his 'get it done' attitude.'
"It is something when he comes into your office like a whirling dervish and starts discussing a subject first at the national level and then down at the microlevel, and then leaves you pieces of metal on your desk that you can hardly lift and has explained exactly where it goes, what it's for, why it should be there and then wants to know why it isn't. And God bless him for it."
Rumsfeld also said the U.S. is more secure because of Hunter.
"He's never let the troops down, and as a result of his leadership and his hard work, our nation is a safer place today," Rumsfeld told the dinner gathering that included Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
And hold the base as well.
Rudy cannot do that.
Pray for a poll that suports your thesis. So far, your thesis has no empirical data to back it up. One poster claimed that a Gallup poll showed 18% of GOP voters would not vote for Rudy in the General Election after being informed of Rudy's social issue views, but the poster has not produced the poll, and I have not seen it, and don't believe it exists.

I'm not suprised at all....anyone that hears his message, and has a functioning brain, will instinctively want to support a real conservative.
Oh, nothing ..(whistles as he ambles away)
no doubt! Zoloft take me away!
that's what coalition politics is all about.
Oh, come on. I fully anticipated the Giuliani win knowing the realities of Spartanburg County, as would almost anyone else from this area.
It is indeed something positive for the Hunter camp considering how well he was polling. Giuliani didn't need to do a whole lot at this point given his celebrity status. Congrats on the Rudy victory, but no need to trash the Hunter side.
Give it up, Torie.
Rudy cannot diss the base and win.
