As I have family in this direct area, I wanted to show pictures of the tornado damage and ask that if anyone can make a contribution, then please do so. I will post a few suggestions for organizations that you can donate to.

As this area is one of the poorest in the country, they can use your help for sure. Any donations of clothing, personal items, canned foods, etc, would also be appreciated and can be donated to one of the local churches.

Thank you for allowing me to post this.

We drive thru there every year on our way down to the Gulf Coast. The best staffed McDonalds in the State is there!

Bump!

This is a copy of a letter that was sent to me by a non-profit group in Arkansas. The group is the Arkansas Community Foundation.

Friends and Family Members,

We are asking for your help in spreading the word about the establishment of the Delta Area Disaster Relief fund to aid in relief for Desha and Lincoln counties following the devastating tornado on Saturday.

Monica Freeland, Executive Director for Delta Area Community Foundation (DACF) said it is realllly realllly bad and words can't describe the destruction and condition of Dumas. Lots of jobs were lost in seconds…houses are gone, businesses gone, factories gone. It is unbelievable. ARKAT was demolished as well as the offices of Federal-Mogul. Both companies have endowments with us. The Community Center where DACF had scheduled the 30th Anniversary celebration was destroyed.

FYI...

Dumas is not setup at this time to receive: appliances, toys, clothes or anything like that. If anyone has items to be donated, please hold them for a couple of weeks until procedures are in place.

They do need and are receiving the following items: hand wipes, hand sanitizers, baby food, baby formula, diapers, and cleaning supplies. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has arrived. They have a website (gbgm-umc.org/umcor), that recommends items for donation such as “Food Buckets” and “Health Kits” that contain cleaning items to be distributed to individuals for clean-up.

Thank you for your assistance in getting the word out…

Appreciate the post. I will call the First Baptist Church in Dumas and see if they can use what I have to donate, then I'll drive it up there -- it's less than 2 hours.
