Spotted tornado over Mobile Bay....
oh no. I hope there are no more than 8. Sometimes early reports are low, then the numbers rise.
I can't get onto the CNN pipeline, so for everyone else, here's a link to MSNBC story... which has a link to live video

Yeah- just what we need after last month's tornados...what a mess.
There's a rough patch headed toward Macon, GA now, about halfway between Columbus and there, two areas with vortex signatures.

I hope this is not the reason but in our school district it is not considered a full day of school unless the kids stay until 1. Federal monies are also taken away from the school on days that the kids are not in school for a full day (all kids receive lunch)
School had let out at 1:00 pm and the tornado hit at 1:15 pm
I hate not having a basement here in Arkansas.
sw
I WAS THERE!!!! Almost ruined a good friendship when we did leave our seats, (missed Bo's TD) to call home to see if we needed to take cover. LOL!
Hi Pinz,
I'm back, in the basement, on wireless. That storm east of Tuscaloosa looks ominous.
I was watching Fox and FRiends at 6 this morning and they had issued very stern warnings about the weather.
now they're saying at least 9 dead. :(
Per MSNBC link I posted above.
Cell X1, vortex signature, 3.00" hail, southwest of Tuscaloosa.
sorry - they changed the story from being about the HS only, to now being about the storm in general. I hate it when they do that. Still 8 confirmed dead.
Hard to know at this point- but theoretically a school should be a fairly safe location- unless the tornado is a real hellraiser- which this one looks to have been.
sad day for that small community :(
www.nbc13.com has good coverage
I heard they are guessing it was a F3 or stronger.
We have tornado drills about 3 times a year at our school. Inside wall, duck and cover.
Here's a link for NBC 13 (for convenience).

I've tried watchign the video but it's stop and go sometimes.
