Don't mean to be mean, but anyone who buys a speculative stock for their retirement is a loon.
My "safe" IRA actually gained during the 2001-2005 recession. Putting your retirement in a single stock is like buying lottery tickets.
Hate to tell you this but the 2001 recession ended in 2001.
