According to the NG article, mainstream climate experts say the Mars warm up comes from wobbles in Mars' orbit, not an increase in solar heating;
{snip... 'The conventional theory is that climate changes on Mars can be explained primarily by small alterations in the planet's orbit and tilt, not by changes in the sun.
"Wobbles in the orbit of Mars are the main cause of its climate change in the current era," Oxford's Wilson explained. (Related: "Don't Blame Sun for Global Warming, Study Says" [September 13, 2006].' snip...}

The UN has de-emphasized the Warm Period and the Little Ice age (and the Maunder Solar Minimum).
Christopher Monckton discusses it here:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/11/05/nosplit/nwarm05.xml
Look at his backup files. The UN removed these blips in our recent climate history.
Otherwise, fourth graders may ask, what happened to the polar bears in the Medieval Warm Period? And the UN and Algor must remain silent.

That's because it's "settled science."

"The UN has de-emphasized the Warm Period and the Little Ice age (and the Maunder Solar Minimum)." Yes, I know.
That's why I referred to it as pre-PC history. :-)

Yours is an excellent exercise in missing the point.

Likewise on Earth, Milankovitch Cycles are responsible for the series of ice ages we've had for the last 3 million years or so. In other words, global warming and cooling caused by our orbital fluctuations.
Most climatologists see solar output variations as being minor compared to orbital forcing.
Personally, I think the sun may be more variable now than before and may play a bigger role, but I'm not a climatologist (I do read many papers on solar output though).

Nice article and good to see just how much 'science' changes the facts to fit the politics.
Thanks.

You puny humans will regret sending your greenhouse gasses across the solar system and into our atmosphere!!!

Oh, I thought Pre-PC meant you used a Sinclair or TRS-80.
Sorry.
I was using a PDP 1180 back then myself.

no doubt Mars was once a Republican planet inhabited by conservatives driving SUV's Which, of course, explains why there is no longer life on Mars...

Yours is an excellent exercise in missing the point.Your point was that both arguments are wrong. I didn't miss it, I wasn't responding to your point, but to your remark about Rush Limbaugh.
I was saying that you could have made your point without dissing Mr. Limbaugh. So, you essentially missed my point.

I think "Goooofy" would be more accurate. But spooky fits too, as it does with lots of fiction, like "The Ring".

I like this quote from the article:
"Amato Evan, a climate scientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, added that "the idea just isn't supported by the theory or by the observations."
But it still gets play in the media. Go figure.

"Oh, I thought Pre-PC meant you used a Sinclair or TRS-80." LOL! My fault. I think everybody should understand what I mean.
I do remember one of the staff auditors bought a TRS-80 back in 1981 or so and was showing me his program that did some cursor movements.
I was verrrry underwhelmed at the time, but the rest is (as they say) history.
He's probably a wealthy geek somewhere now. ;-)

b) the earth is cooler now than 1000 years ago. That cannot really be said with any confidence.
To: AT7Saluki
Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming This is very evident in Fairbanks where it is -34 this morning.
