Walter Cronkite Forgets Saddam Husseins Name During Interview About Iraq Posted by Noel Sheppard on March 1, 2007 - 00:05.
Former CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite was in San Jose last week to give a speech at the Commonwealth Club. Before he did, he gave an interview to the local CBS affiliates Hank Plante (video available here).
In fairness, Cronkite seemed very tired, and a little out of sorts. However, there were several moments during the interview when Cronkite forget simple things like who the former tyrant and leader of Iraq was and another when he stated that Barack Obama is in his twenties. Honestly.
With that in mind, here were some of the more interesting highlights first with his opinion of the Iraq war:
We should have gotten out a long time ago. This is a mistake, this entire war there, it's a disaster. And the earlier we get out the better It's a terrible disaster. Look at the loss of lives of our young Americans there and those who have been maimed for life, for what purpose? No purpose we can define.

I think its already lost, the Iraq war, as far as our participation in it. We havent made any friends with that. We havent saved anybody from any worse existence than they had before. Weve made it more difficult for all of them, and difficult for us. I think it was a mistake from the beginning. We ought to get out sooner rather than later.
As a result of Iraq:
I think were probably less safe. The entire Arab world has now put us down as an enemy. It's going to be a long time for us to take back any suggestion of friendship with those nations.
Then came the first memory lapse with the discussion still on Iraq:
It was a bad idea. A really bad idea. The idea of getting rid of what was his name, Ive forgotten his name.
Saddam Hussein, Walter.
And the next one, this time about Sen. Barack Obama:
I dont think theres a color problem with him quite honestly. I think hes brilliant, hes attractive. Hell do well. The problem is not color, but age. Hes still young. Quite young in his young twenties. Thats a little too early.
Yikes. Thats quite a brain
well, you can fill in the blank.
Probably time to change his diaper.
Some really decent people got killed in a no-win war because of this old bastard.
"Time to check his diaper..."
Come on! Give the man the respect he's due... it's Depends.
(RED Depends).
Right. You'll know immediately if he's not.
Cronkite was suffering from jet lag ... add to that a five martini hangover.
Why do people listen to what this guy says? He has lost whatever mind he had...Sad to watch.
He needs to take the Clintons on another sailing trip; God knows where they'll end up.
Laws are for the hoi polloi.
Yes, Uncle Walter is getting up there in age.
He should get his boat, and take an around the world trip with John Murtha, John McCain, Patrick Leahy, Harry Reid, and Jimmy Carter.
It was not a no-win war in viet nam. We lost it here, because of the media and stupid micromanagement. We could have won militarily, just like iraq. Scum like this POS helped turn the people against the war effort. Treasonous bastard. Rot in hell, Cronkite.
Further proof that liberalism rots your brain.
As someone approaching three score years I want to say that yeah, sometimes the old memory recall isn't what it used to be. Seems to be a break down in the hash file or something. Who cares if Walter Krankheit can't remember the name of, of, oh, of, darn it, of what's his name? Walt was a pinko even when his memory worked.
Well, to be honest I can't criticize the old Lefty for making these kinds of mistakes. He was born Nov 4, 1916 which means he just turned 90.
Cronkite: "Has my check from Hanoi arrived yet?"
It's pretty obvious he's senile. Whether it's Alzheimers or not, I don't know.
People can't help having Alzheimers, but they can help blathering in public without a clue.
He inhabits the same moral sewer as "Hanoi Jane" Fonda, and John "Effin'" Kerry.
For if you're lucky, you'll be too! ;^)
