Hey, if Frodo can make it to Mount Doom, there's a chance, right? Then again, Frodo wasn't corrupted by politics (or politicians). He did what needed to be done in order to defeat evil, no matter the cost. Thank goodness Sauron's feeeeeeeelings weren't taken into account. I can hear it now:
"Don't make fun of his eye! He's really seeeeeensitive and self-conscious about it! And don't even think of uttering that he's out to destroy all of Middle Earth! He's just misunderstood! Let's give peace a chance! Oh, hey! Here comes a horde of his Uruk-hai Orcs now! Perhaps we can sit down with them and talk! Even though they're borne from mud holes, I'm sure we have more in common with them than we think!"
