LONDON -- Boeing Co. said Wednesday that it is in talks with 15 companies in Europe, Asia and the Middle East about potential sales of its new, longer 747 jumbo jet. ....SNIP...Boeing has received 78 orders for the 747-8, including 24 passenger versions. ..SNIP...Analysts believe that after concentrating massive resources on the A380, Airbus has been outmaneuvered by the 787, which delivers better fuel economy than older four-engine Airbus jets in the same size category.

Airbus unveiled a restructuring Wednesday to cut 10,000 jobs over four years as it tries to overcome costly delays to its A380 program and the effects of a weaker U.S. dollar.
They can't even get through a simple article sometimes without a US bash at the end. The weaker US dollar seems to be valued just about right to me, maybe lower.

When Boeing changed it's strategy to focus on short haul aircraft that are made of more composite materials and use much less fuel Airbus was in big trouble. How could EAS not have known that fuel costs were going to be a factor in the future (which is now)? It was all ego over at EAS, the French just had to have a bigger plane than the 747. lol

I think the 787 is 20 alumunum, 50 percent composites, and it ony reduced the weight by 2-3 percent overall.
Our new Mg AE44 is 50% stronger than 6061 T6, extrudable, and weighs 35% less than Al, and has a greater strength to weight ratio than Titanium.

Actually it is non-flammable, even the powder, besides Mg larger then 3mm will not support comustion on it's own.

Chicago-based Boeing has received 78 orders for the 747-8, including 24 passenger versions. German airline Lufthansa AG has made 20 of those passenger orders, with the other four going to private VIP customers. I think they're talking about 24 aircraft, configured for carriage of passengers.
