Blacks, Evangelicals Switch Allegiances

Two interesting trends in the 2008 presidential race were uncovered in the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll:

In the Democratic race, the poll found Clinton with 43% support, trailed by Obama at 27% and Edwards at 14%. None of the other Democrats running received more than 3%.

On the Republican side, Giuliani leads with 44% to Sen. John McCain's 21%. Newt Gingrich had 15% support.

To say you prefer Guiliani over McCain does not mean you would or could ever vote for Guiliani.

I see. So, someone who tells a pollster he/she supports Rudy, doesn't really mean that they intend to vote for him. A novel concept. Usually, if one doesn't support either, they register their response as "undecided."

I am thinking a good portion of a bottle of Jack Daniels, but I would do the deed! Then I would probably keep drinking because I think he is a loose canon.

Depends on how everything was worded.

White evangelical Protestants now clearly favor Rudy Giuliani over Sen. John McCain, "despite his support of abortion rights and gay rights, two issues of great importance to religious conservatives."

I received a similar polling call myself. They gave me three choices on the Republican side: McCain, Guiliani or Romney. They didn't even offer "none of the above." Of those three, I would pick Guiliani. These things are recorded and you either pick or stay silent. But I wouldn't vote for Guiliani.

Come to think of it they did offer "unsure." But that's not the same as "none of the above." I'm not unsure. I know what I think. They just didn't offer me any options I found acceptable.

Taped polling can only pick up so much. All you can say for sure about this poll is that white evangelicals don't like McCain more than they don't like Guiliani. It's a measure of negatives as far as I can see from this info.

You seem very hostile about this. Is Guiliani a relative or something?

Quite a few, including several thousand throughout the South.
I happen to be active in the political arm of one of the organizations that will oppose Rudy Giuliani on an official basis when the appropriate time comes.

Didn't Clinton get elected and re-elected with around 42%? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I know Perot had a lot to do with it in '92, everyone stayed home when Dole ran in '96.

Thanks for your help.

Things just keep looking better and better. So much for the argument the more people know about Rudy the more is poll numbers will drop. The opposite is happening.

Democrats = higher taxes, all the time. If a Dem gets back in the White, kiss your bank account goodbye. (Just look at PA's Governor Ed Rendell, who just announced new planned tax increases. Gee, he never mentioned it BEFORE last November's election.

That's why I'm voting for the frontrunner Republican who can win this race!

Neat! I guess you can't talk about it? Your discourse on other threads I have been to is always reasonable and personable, I don't know what happens to you when you get on the Rudy threads. :)

Rudy Giuliani hits every hot button with me. I cannot and will not ever accept him as a president. Nothing personal, strictly on principle.

If we let the Dems get back the White House, we'll face shitty national health care (kiss your own nice health care plan goodbye, we can't have elitism in this country); our capital gains tax will skyrocket; they'll cut and run in Iraq while bringing in even more Somali and Bosnian Muslim immigrants to live on welfare in subsidized housing down the street from you. Trust me, I live in PA, it's happening here.

At the art gallery/coffee house? My, must have been one of those "evangelical" Episcopalians!

You're right, no way a true "evangelical" would be caught dead in an art gallery. Or a museum.
