Blacks, Evangelicals Switch Allegiances

Two interesting trends in the 2008 presidential race were uncovered in the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll:

In the Democratic race, the poll found Clinton with 43% support, trailed by Obama at 27% and Edwards at 14%. None of the other Democrats running received more than 3%.

On the Republican side, Giuliani leads with 44% to Sen. John McCain's 21%. Newt Gingrich had 15% support.

But Rudy can't beat Obama according to the new gallop poll.

We'll see about that. They haven't done any real poll of Republicans against Democrats and they won't come out until we get the nominees for both parties.

That is one of the main things I like about him. He says what he thinks and if you don't agree with him, that is just too bad, but he's not going to flip-flop like other politicians just to get a few more votes.

We're not voting for the Doctor-in-Chief nor the Minister-in-chief...we're voting for a LEADER and COMMANDER IN CHIEF. The Evangels don't seem to be able to distinguish.

IMHO, those photos make Rudy unelectable unless he were running for British PM.

Looks like a Sept start for Gingrich is a no go if'n he wants to really be in the race. He appears to be in position to influence the debate....

"Are you really so small minded that you think that art galleries that serve tea and refreshments are liberal establishments?"

Many have no idea how the South works, Peach. To them there's no culture here except for the liberals. Us conservatives are just 4x4 driving deer-killers. ;-)

LOL. It's really shocking to me that just mentioning going to an art gallery around here causes such bigoted reactions. It's rather disgusting, frankly, and I can see why the media has been so successful at portraying Republicans in such a negative light.

I guess many live in cities where the loudest artists are the liberal ones with political agendas. It's just not so much that way where I'm from.

You know Obama's camp is going to use the "Hillary is unelectable" argument at some point.

Agreed. If he wants to make a go of it he has to make up his mind soon.

I'll be turning off my TV early this year... the mud slinging is going to be unbearable.

Not to mention all the fighting on FR. Hope that will subside some once we get a nominee.

Exactly. Picking a president based solely on his stance on abortion is not sensible. Picking a president based on the types of judges he picks-- that's sensible. Picking a president based on economic policy-- also sensible. Picking a president based on foreign policy/ national defense-- that's the most sensible of all.

Prolife candidates are much more important in the legislature, not the executive branch.

Someone on FR recently said (I think numerous times) that evangelical Christians will not support Rudy. First, as an evangelical Christian, I somewhat resent some anonymous Freeper representing how I will vote. But secondly, evangelicals who are politically-aware and involved are not some kind of monolithic group. We're able to determine for ourselves whom to support, and we're a lot more sophisticated in our motivations than we're given credit for by the hysterical caucus on FR.

Also, as an evangelical, I hang around with a lot of other evangelicals. My take is that about half the evangelicals I know haven't decided yet whom to support in '08. The other half are supporting Rudy.

Bingo, Obama or Hillary win with 40% of the popular vote.

Ahem...40% of the vote doesn't win elections.
