The idea of the NYSE specialists having a hand in this is very interesting. They had a meeting with the NYSE board just a few days ago to protest the elimination of so many people on the trading floor, there's even talk of eliminating the specialists all together and trading strictly electronically.
They "saved the day" yesterday by recording trades manually. This little episode "proved" the value of having human specialists.
makes ya go hmmmmmmmm.
