General Patton's Address to the Troops
The Patton Society ^ | Charles M. Province

Posted on 02/27/2007 12:48:52 AM PST by Exton1

With the actions of congress wanting to cut an run, I think it is time that the Speech by General George S. Patton be read and sent to ALL members of Congress.

As the General said "This stuff about America wanting out of this war, not wanting to fight, is a crock of bullshit."

The likes of Pelosi and Murtha and the other cowards shows that war is not for women and cowardly old men. Just change the word "German" to "Islamic Terrorist" and the speech is just as appropriate today as it was over 60 years ago.

General Patton's Address to the Troops
Somewhere in England
June 5th, 1944

"Men, this stuff that some sources sling around about America wanting out of this war, not wanting to fight, is a crock of bullshit. Americans love to fight, traditionally. All real Americans love the sting and clash of battle. You are here today for three reasons. First, because you are here to defend your homes and your loved ones. Second, you are here for your own self respect, because you would not want to be anywhere else. Third, you are here because you are real men and all real men like to fight. When you, here, everyone of you, were kids, you all admired the champion marble player, the fastest runner, the toughest boxer, the big league ball players, and the All-American football players. Americans love a winner. Americans will not tolerate a loser. Americans despise cowards. Americans play to win all of the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost nor will ever lose a war; for the very idea of losing is hateful to an American."

"The likes of Pelosi and Murtha and the other cowards shows that war is not for women."

Wow. Way to insult all the women who are fighting, and that have died doing so, for their country. Especially when we're fighting against a culture that specializes in marginalizing women, the 50+% of the Iraqi population we should be making every effort to appeal to since they have the most to gain by keeping Iraq democratically free.

Wake up, newbie-ette troll. War is NOT for women.

Both Exton1 & Patton are right. Crawl back to DU and do your whining there.

Go away and don't forget to pay those carbon credits for your polluting screen name!

I don't think we admire "big league ball players" anymore, just their salaries and steroid affects :-)

That speech in its original, undedited form is hotter than ever.

Whenthe speech was used by Patton the United state didnt have women in combat . So for once Patton meant no insult.

As far as I am concerned they shouldnt be in combat now.

No disrespect meant.

I saw a congressional hearing about Army and Marines equipment.

The average Marine carries between 80 to 100 pounds of gear, including body armer, gun, bullets, water, etc...

I forgot the congresswoman who was intelligent enough to ask what the weight was, but you could see the shock in her face contemplating the muscle need to carry this gear for miles.

Im sure most men over the age of 40 would be hard pressed to carry that gear for a mile without having a heart attack. But I'm sure we could find a few 20 year old women who could carry that weight no problem. A few.

The number of women who can keep up with the average marine in combat is so small that it is insignificant. Women should never be in front line combat unless the front line happens to be Main Street, Anytown America. Unfortunately, that's exactly what might happen if we keep electing surrender-monkey Democrats and RINOs.

"No disrespect meant."

None taken, Sarge. Exton1 was referring to Pelosi & Murtha.

"As far as I am concerned they [women] shouldnt be in combat now."

Correct again. Soldiers should be carrying extra ammo, not Tampons.

Funny you should mention tampons. It has been discovered tampons are actually rather good at stopping bleeding from wounds and a lot of Marines are carrying them.

This was a fantastic speech and appropriate at the time. He was pulling strings and he knew what he was doing. IMHO, George C. Scott did it justice.

"Soldiers should be carrying extra ammo, not tampons"? Really, now. You're trying to make Patton look diplomatic.

Women that are willing to fight and capable of passing the same fitness tests that men are subjected to should have every right to fight for their country. No one I've ever talked to thought there nearly as many of those as men, given that women are obviously much slighter on average, but there's some. You know, equality? It's that thing we're trying to spread abroad? No one ever said there weren't some who still needed to learn about it at home, though.

I wouldn't count the sacrifice of those women who have died in Iraq serving this country as "miniscule", but that's just me.
