The problem of feeding an armed force engaged in combat, whether in alien or in home areas, has occupied the attention of military leaders since the beginning of organized warfare. Leaders learned that the ability of men to fight was related to the way they were fed and that the answer to the feeding problem often determined victory or defeat. The axiom that an army travels on its stomach is as good today as it has ever been, only now that classical stomach rides in airplanes, ships, tanks, submarines, and jeeps in every terrain and climate of the world. But there is no question that the problems of the army stomach have entered the age of specialization. This fact is increasingly evident as the story of army subsistence unfolds from the early simplicity to the contemporary complexity of the military feeding program.

The earliest rations of the United States Army were all-inclusive in purpose. For more than a century after 1776, the basis of all troop feeding--for soldiers in camp, on the march, in action, or just surviving--was the simple fare of meat and bread, and sometimes vegetables, known as the garrison ration. From the Revolutionary War to World War I, the garrison ration served the unit, the small group, and the individual. Moreover, it was intended to serve them in organized messes, in isolated groups, and in individual situations of combat and survival.

The MRE cookbook is great. there aint a soldier I know that doesnt mix and match the ingredients in MRE packs to make their own concoctions. Most soldiers carry a small stash of spices as well. And while the MRE heaters work very well for heating up the food, troops have discovered what Ogg the caveman discovered...."fire make meat good" and whenever possible meat is charred for added flavor L0L

That was so cute actually they show first episode of when Seven of Nine was really join the crew she help Belenn Torres on her day of honor and Torres ask Seven so do you feel any remorse of all species you asslimiate of course she said NO it reveleant That cold ROFL

A corporal needed to use a pay phone, but didn't have change for a dollar. He saw a private mopping the floors, and asked him, "Soldier, do you have change for a dollar?"
The private replied, "Sure."
The corporal gave him an icy stare. He said, "That's no way to address a superior officer! Now let's try it again. Private, do you have change for a dollar?"
The private replied, "No, SIR!"

A sergeant was passing the barracks after lights out, when he heard some voices from inside. He slammed open the door, and shouted: Listen, you guys! A few minutes ago, you all heard me say good night. What you must realize, is that when I say "Good Night," what I really mean is "Shut up!!!"
The room instantly fell silent. But after a few seconds, a small voice could be heard from somewhere in the far back of the dark room: "Good Night, Sergeant"
