Standing with Gore on the stage last night, actor Leonardo DiCaprio said, to applause, "The American film industry has always taken its obligations to society very seriously and it's now stepping up once again. Tonight, we're proud to announce that for the first time in the history of the Oscars, this show has officially gone green.

Prove it, DiCaprio. Pampered stars are not known to sacrifice personal amenities. They'll talk a lot but their actions rarely back up their words.

I have read that the energy consumption on the average film set would power a dozen houses for a year. I doubt that the Oscars were very "green" as he claims.

Just think how much energy could be conserved if they didn't even have an Oscar ceremony or all those other useless awards ceremonies every year, and that includes all the wasteful parties. Announce the winners online and mail out the awards - can't get more green than that.
