"Texas Bill Would Require Voting Machine Paper Trail" [Another Courageous Patriotic Republican]
Government Technology ^ | 26 February 2007 | Wayne Hanson

Posted on 02/26/2007 9:33:54 AM PST by lifelong_republican

"A voting system that consists of direct recording electronic voting machines," says the text, "may not be used in an election unless the system produces a voter-verified permanent paper record suitable for a manual audit." In addition, the bill as written would require the system to allow the voter to inspect and verify the paper record before the electronic vote is recorded and provide an opportunity to alter the electronic vote after viewing the paper record..."

Tell me what other opinion on what other issue would be anything but moot once you give up your right to vote.

The voter should simply prepare his own ballot himself.

"WA state can tell me and whoever that their elections are NEVER stolen"

ANY election can be stolen if the election officials are dishonest, which is the case in King County. Note that I live in PIERCE County, not King. Machine-scanned paper ballots make it less easy to steal--NOT impossible.

But "all electronic" voting machines have NO real security, and NO way to verify anything at all.

You ignore the fact that it's easier for corrupt Democrats to get away with election subversion with the electronics.

You also merely offer fallacy when you attempt to lie about me.

You make an excellent point in that the 'voting' systems aren't even remotely as secure as ATM systems.

The objections to the 'paper trail' include the fact that it may not match the final tallies.

The main reason for going back to paper ballots is so that democrats can steal elections again by committing massive fraud.

Paper reciepts are damned easy to forge.

Your ad hominem fallacy disgraces you.

The subject here is the vote, and how I want you to do your voting for yourself.

You want to hand it off to the corrupt Democrats and even to the communist Chinese.

You make a good point that a 'receipt' system would be subject to serious abuses, if the voter were able to take the receipt from the polling place. The usual scenario is that the receipt is retained in the polling precinct until moved to the central tabulation area.

What works best is for the voters to create their own ballots, and to observe the counts of those ballots.

The ballot is supposedly discarded when the voter determines that it doesn't reflect his choices.

The Republicans trying to vote for Senator Rick Santorum, who saw the electronics switch their votes to his opponents, were right to file complaints about that.

Well said! You wrote:

"So a paperless electronic system isn't subject to fraud? It's always going to be a problem. That's why, as Stalin said, "those who vote decide nothing; those who count the votes decide everything."

The problem with the electronics is that they make it easy to get away with more widespread election subversion.

You are proving my point. Your govermor, Gregiore, got into office plain and clear because of voter fraud. So now you have a leftist governor because of fraud in a another county.

You're right, of course. Opscan ballots can be recounted in independent ways.

You, being new here, have posted only about ONE subject, which happens to be a key hot topic for Democrats who think that 2000 and 2004 were stolen by Rove and Diebold.

And you have adopted all of the Democratic talking points regarding that topic.

Why would we not question that?

So you don't believe you can vote for yourself, and that you need others you don't even know to do it for you.

I hope you become better informed and a lot more responsible.

Massive vote fraud is easiest with paperless electronics, as well as easiest to conceal.

Uh no, what Florida 2000 was about was paper ballots in democrat districts. They routinely threw out Bush votes and by a miracle somehow found a bunch of fraudulent Gore votes. Since Florida went to electronic voting, the cases of democrat fraud has gone down AND the democrats have had a harder time stealing elections.

The problem with the electronics is that they make it easy to get away with more widespread election subversion.

The Mexicans proved that in the past. There's no really good system for preventing fraud of some degree with the number of voters and districts in America.

Are you trying to claim that the Republicans of Pennsylvania who were prevented from voting for Rick Santorum would somehow not be Republicans?

I am pointing out scientific/technological facts.

The GAO and NIST, among others, have also confirmed that the electronics are not suitable for use in elections.
