They STILL won't sign the pledge?
Dude, is Rudy trying to give the GOP no reasons to vote for him at all?

Thus far, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (on Dec. 31), Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback, California Rep. Duncan Hunter and former Virginia governor James Gilmore have all signed the pledge. Telling.

The National Taxpayer Protection Pledge reads: I ,____________, pledge to the taxpayers of the _____ district of the State of _________ and to the American People that I will:
ONE, oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses; and
TWO, oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.

Rudy is still trying to find someone to explain to him what a "fiscal conservative" actually is before he decides to sign this. (Not that it would mean anything even if he did.)

Why would Rudy sign it? He wouldn't even check 'Republican' on his FEC filing form.
Heck even if he did it sign it, it would be meaningless. We know Rudy's track record when it comes to 'commitments'. 'Commitment' and Rudy is like the Clinton's and the truth.
(what's the odds that if Rudy was somehow elected, say through a pact with the Devil, he'd switch parties. I say 50-50.)

If there's another war, the president shouldn't have his hands tied when it comes to financing. I don't blame McCain and Giuliani. Romney's pledge is just desperation as he knows he's unlikely to be in the White House to live up to it.

Gonna' need higher taxes... to accomodate all those all those illegals and hire more ATF goons to go house-to-house rounding up all the weapons.

It's gonna be interesting to see how the liberal Rudybot fans defend their man on this one. You know they will.Of course they will. They will you a liar for posting fact. they will make amazing claims without ever backing them up. The will call you a KKK member, but claim you are the one splitting the party. They will tell you that whatever you post is old news and rudy has a new position now. They will tell you about something older than what they just called old news as an indicator of how awesome rudy is. If there is a troll in the bunch, they will deride you for calling the mods on it.
I like to call them the COLHfG's - Cranky old liberal Hags for Giuliani.

Much higher, because he'll give tax breaks to all the gay couples whose weddings he'll personally preside over. Oh yeah, he'll probably fully fund his pet gay groups, you know, the ones with ties to anti-war communist groups. Make taxes even higher to do that. UNNNGH! Wherre will it end?

"...the pledge that every Republican presidential nominee has signed since 1988 promising not to raise the tax rates."
Would this be the same pledge that G.H.W. Bush signed?
And if so, what is it worth?

Would this be the same pledge that G.H.W. Bush signed? And if so, what is it worth? I don't know if he signed a pledge, but he sure made a pledge in 1988. As far as what it was worth, I'd say it was worth the 1992 election.

neither have signed the pledge that every Republican presidential nominee has signed since 1988 promising not to raise the tax rates. Not to sound like a Giuliani or McCain phanboy, because I'm not, but purely symbolic gestures like this don't impress me. Signing the pledge in 1988 sure didn't stop George H. W. "Read My Lips" Bush from raising tax rates.

And all the while the primaries are being jiggered to cut out the possibility of any "dark horse." We have a national disaster in the offing no matter which of these quasi leftists (and one nut) wins.

"Not that it would mean anything even if he did"
And you think it means something to the others? It's called pandering to the 'base'. You might not like it, but if Rudy thinks its a stupid thing to sign, he won't sign it. I think it is a meaningless pledge myself. You cannot be an effective leader and tie your own hands like that.
