Clinton Fights to Keep Impeachment Taboo

After Spat, Campaigns Know to Expect Swift Reprisal for Any Hint of the Scandal

By Anne E. Kornblut
Washington Post Staff Writer Sunday, February 25, 2007

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has a new commandment for the 2008 presidential field: Thou shalt not mention anything related to the impeachment of her husband.

With a swift response to attacks from a former supporter last week, advisers to the New York Democrat offered a glimpse of their strategy for handling one of the most awkward chapters of her biography. They declared her husband's impeachment in 1998 -- or, more accurately, the embarrassing personal behavior that led to it -- taboo, putting her rivals on notice and all but daring other Democrats to mention the ordeal again.

Hillary Clinton was at her most popular when her husband's dalliance with an intern was publicly revealed. (1998 Photo By Robert Reeder -- The Washington Post)

"In the end, voters will decide what's off-limits, but I can't imagine that the public will reward the politics of personal destruction," senior Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson said Friday, when asked whether the impeachment is fair game for Clinton's opponents. Earlier in the week, Wolfson dismissed references to President Bill Clinton's conduct as "under the belt."

But the reality, of course, is that the impeachment was conducted very much in public.

Letter to Dear Abby
>> Dear Abby:
>>
>> My husband is a liar and a cheat. He has cheated on me from
>> The beginning, and, when I confront him, he denies everything.
>> What's worse, everyone knows that he cheats on me. It is so
>> humiliating.
>>
>> Also, since he lost his job five years ago, he hasn't even
>> Looked for a new one. All he does all day is smoke cigars, cruise
>> Around and bullsh#t with his buddies while I have to work to pay the
>> bills.
>>
>> Since our daughter went away to college he doesn't even pretend to
>> Like me and hints that I may be a lesbian.
>>
>> What should I do?
>>
>> Signed,Clueless
>>
>> Dear Clueless: Grow up and dump him. Good grief, woman.
>> You don't need him anymore. You're a United States Senator from New York. Act like one!

its amazing how she can just issue these sweeping orders - and the media and any democratic opponent just falls in line and obeys.

Don't forget most of the Republicans in the name of bipartisanship which people in the real world know as utter stupidity and cowardice.

And the wife of the man who was disbarred for 5 years and fined close to $100,000 for lying under oath in a federal court proceeding.

'spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of angering the Clintons'

What the heck gives Arkansas trailer trash that kind of power over everyone in this country?

Do those people who apparently live in fear that Hillary will do something bad to them, not realize that is the very thing that needs to be exposed?

I cannot believe it even when I read comments like these -
just what we need running this country, a post-menapausal woman who keeps lists of everyone who has done ANYTHING she doesn't like - and people are actually considering voting for her.

We get what we deserve, and so far the country has seen whining, threatening, bigoted people leading the country - if leading is even the right term. Thanks everyone who let the dems take the majority. I hope the next several years are worth it to you.

I'm OK with that. Hitlary wasn't impeached.

Lets talk a lot about Hillary endorsing, in order to get power, old men (impeached hubby) committing adultery with young women just barely out of their teens.

"In the end, voters will decide what's off-limits, but I can't imagine that the public will reward the politics of personal destruction,"

IOW, criticism of Hitlary and/or the truth about her is mean and anyone who would engage in it would kill a puppy.

This is just like they treated Ted Kennedy's "driving booboo" going into the 1980 elections.

She's already started using the "politics of personal destruction", to defend any questions on character or sleazy activities. The cutesy phrase is used to try to shield REAL questions of corruption, rape, womanizing, and her conduct as a doormat for the Philanderer-in-Chief, to protect her future in politics?

Except for the moonbat loonie left, who wants a President who is a doormat and will tolerate ANYTHING un-seemly just to retain or gain power and poll numbers?????

Mrs. William Jefferson Clinton was co-president; what went on in the White House was as much her doing as his. She doesn't want his disgraceful conduct and resulting impeachment mentioned? Together they sold our security; hugged Arafat; traveled at taxpayer expense extensively; let the Los Alamos caper go with little investigation once they found a fall guy; let the Sandy Burger caper go with little investigation; Vince Foster's death, an obvious murder, threatened people with a different opinion; and Jessie Jackson was told to be quite about Ron Brown. Where in the name of Sam Hill does Mrs. William Jefferson Clinton get off with her threats to anyone mentioning the rapist she is married to and his subsequent impeachment as the 42nd president of this nation......she is unbalanced and she is dangerous.

Mrs. William Jefferson Clinton has made her bed and deal with the devil and now threatens anyone who would try to dislodge her from that miserable, tattered, filthy, sodden, grave she has dug for herself......she's going down....sounds like it to me!

No problem, concentrate on her instead .. Rose records, revolting temper, FBI files, cattle futures, her role in fundraising from Chinese and so on. Plenty to go around !

The Clintons are nothing but low-life crooks, no matter what they try to do to their image.

Impeachment was just for one of the many scandals Bill Clinton was involved in. The media is happy to keep quiet about all of them.

More to the point would be the scandals Hillary herself had a direct tie to--like Travelgate, the cattle futures bribe, the Rose Law Firm records mysterious disappearnace, the FBI files.

There are so many that it's hard to remember them all--and that's ignoring others where she was better at covering her involvement (Vince Foster? Waco?)

And that's ignoring other issues of character--her coldness and nastiness as a person, her proclivity for lying, her remarkable number of "I can't recalls" when put under oath, her abuse of public servants like the secret service, etc.

She herself said when you vote for them, "you get 2 for 1". Her commandment not to mention anything truthful about 1/2 of her presidential candidacy is not the law of the land.
