February 24, 2007
I reported a piece last month about how Rudy and McCain were skipping some conservative conferences. One of the events I mentioned that they had not yet RSVP'd to is the Grandaddy Of Them All -- the Conservative Political Action Conference or CPAC.
Turns out Rudy will attend CPAC. He'll speak to the confab Friday.

The trains ran on time. The first flower of fascism. Sorry, a corrupt NYC lawyer who used his connections to avoid the draft, who dumped two wives, who sued gun manufacturers and who advocates an extreme view on abortion will NEVER get my vote.

Rudy`s going to this CPAC Convention and will do his best impersonation of a "born again" conservative. He'll mention Ronald Reagan, Winston Churchill and he might even talk about Teddy Roosevelt. Rudy will talk about 9/11, his fight against crime and his self-professed fiscal conservatism.
He'll get a polite reception. Some folks will even talk about Rudy being the only possible GOP candidate who can fight the WOT and beat Hillary Clinton.
It should be interesting, if nothing else. But Rudy going to CPAC doesn't make him a conservative. Rudy will remain a big govt, pro-abort, pro-gay rights, pro-amnesty, gun grabbing, global warming liberal, now and forever more.

Oh puleeze I went dancing in clubs every weekend when Rudy was mayor. It was safer to go at that time I would never have gone dancing at night when Dinkins was mayor. And I had a ball.
What happened to the other one?

But Rudy going to CPAC doesn't make him a conservative. No more than putting a motor scooter in a garage makes it a Cadillac.

Politics is about WINNING elections, something the democrats understand far better than the sociocons. Political power is about convincing as many voters as possible that your way is the right way.
The sociocons seem to think that destroying the republican party is some kind of ticket to power.

Your prediction of how this will most likely play out hits the nail on the head.

No. Rudy has a very good conservative record on fiscal matters. Yes, for NYC, in which that city probably hasn't seen a tax-cut since it was incorporated.
BTW, when will Duncan Hunter denounce his big spending, liberal voting record?
Good question. Why don't you ping the Hunter folks and they'll answer it for you.

The sociocons seem to think that destroying the republican party is some kind of ticket to power. Actually, it's the "sociolibs" who think that. They're just not smart enough to know that's what they're doing.

Politics is about WINNING elections, something the democrats understand far better than the sociocons. Right. James Carville could have posted that without blinking an eye.

From an outsider looking in you are very fair in your approach, that is you standup for people even if you disagree with them politically, good for you and thanks for your service. (32nd Army Air Defense Command 68 - 69).

The resurgence of the Rockefeller wing of the GOP (personified by that abomination that dares call itself 'compassionate conservatism') is doing a fine job of destroying the Republican Party all by itself. If the Party is insane enough to nominate somebody like Rudy, they will discover too late that trying to 'out-Democrat the Democrats' will not result in electoral victory, let alone a moral, philosophical victory. All they'll need to do to make the transformation complete is to get rid of all the images of elephants, and substitute them with rhinoceroses.
