RESIDENTS of a tiny village swamped by more than 1,000 travellers have won their battle to have the intruders thrown out.

Locals were celebrating last night after a planning inquiry ruled those on the illegal site, the biggest in Europe, must go.

Families in Crays Hill, Essex, claim the travellers made their life hell after swarming into the village about six years ago.

They say some residents received personal threats, that travellers’ children disrupted the local school, and property prices dived dramatically.

Council chiefs decided to evict the travellers — but campsite leaders launched a legal challenge late last year in a desperate bid to stay on the greenbelt plot. Their appeal was defeated yesterday.

Campaigner Sally Aungier said: “The law has won. It’s a landmark decision for the whole UK. Had it gone the other way it would have been disastrous for greenbelt land.”

Tina Borer, who arranged a protest march, said: “The camp’s had an impact on the whole area — there are more travellers than villagers.”

Basildon Council has set aside £1.9million to meet the costs of evicting the camp. Leader Malcolm Buckley said: “This decision vindicates our actions. It’s a pity it was not reached earlier.”

But a travellers’ spokesman said they had not given up hope of staying. They have instructed solicitors to seek a judicial review.

Greenville, SC, our neighborhood got hit. "They" went house to house during the night and stole from garages. We lost $900.00 in tools,etc.
Neighbor #1 thought it was blacks. #2 thought it was Mexicans. I voted for Irish Presbyterians. Neighbor #3, a prosecuting attorney, told me about Irish travelers who live the south and make a living running scams, and crime.

Yes, that's one of the ways that they are insulating themselves from legal accountability....they have been given status as a distinct ethnic group in Great Britain and so they have many more rights than the honest folk.

Sis is a cop. She put out the word on what to look for.

They caught the SOBs, but they skipped bail. These cons now have a non-extraditabel felony warrant in AZ, doubtful they'll come back.

Folks were out $500 - could have been worse, but dad did not pay all the 'bill' up front.
