Amid Oscar buzz for Gore, backers talk political encore
Boston Globe ^ | February 24, 2007 | John Donnelly

....Al Gore, the star of the global warming film "An Inconvenient Truth," which is the odds-on favorite to capture the award for Best Documentary, has been transformed in the eyes of many in the last year from an oft-maligned former vice president to a man whom some bloggers call the "Goracle" for his prescient messages on climate change and his warning in 2002 about the dangers in Iraq.

…..Around the country, many are already plotting ways to persuade Gore to run. One of them is Linda Sophia Pinti , a Democratic activist in Cambridge, Mass., who has been holding monthly "draft Gore" meetings since June. She said at least 25 other gatherings are held regularly around the country.

…"I think Al Gore is one of our greatest patriots, and when a call is strong enough and loud enough, a patriot will respond to the call of duty," Pinti said, expressing excitement over the possibility that an Oscar win would put the spotlight back on Gore.

Jimmy Carter, for one, has repeatedly pressed for Gore to run, most recently in a TV interview to be broadcast tomorrow.

…."I would love it if he could run. He has the best profile of any candidate," said Bob Somerby , Gore's roommate at Harvard University, who runs www.dailyhowler.com , a press critique website.

…."I would be shocked if he ran because all that garbage from the past campaigns would be done all over again," said Somerby, recalling that the George H.W. Bush called Gore the "Ozone Man" and many radio talk show commentators have labeled him a "nut" for his environmental views. Even though polls suggest a growing concern about climate change, voters may not be ready for a full-throated global warming analyst in the White House.

LOL!!!

What a hilarious article. AlGore, a global warming analyst? What, did he invent that, too?

"An Inconvenient Truth" a prescient movie? Didn't it say the same things that the alarmists have been saying for years?

"I think Al Gore is one of our greatest patriots, and when a call is strong enough and loud enough, a patriot will respond to the call of duty,"

This fawning puff piece from the Boston Globe would be laughable if it weren't so juvenile. The photoshopped swirling hurricane above the smokestacks reminds me of those Fillmore light shows of the 60's, where Iron Butterfly would blast out "In-A-Godda-Da-Vida" to a backdrop of pulsing amoeba and paramecium (-5sp?) while throngs of LSD soaked hippies would writhe about mumbling "Flower Power, Man!"

Meanwhile, the smokestacks from nearby Con Edison would be spewing nasties into the air in order to provide electrical power to the Fillmore, its lightshow, and the amps cranked to 11 that Iron Butterfly used .......

Laughable.

Why doesn't he just call on mother nature .....

I remember mother nature called when he was fundraising at a Buddhist temple -- and the iced tea kicked in.

I have no clue where my comparison of the hurricane/smokestacks to the Fillmore light shows came from ... it just popped into my mind from seeing that picture for some strange reason :)

Maybe its a bad flashback ... /grin

It is strange that NO ONE, not even normal people, ever question Goreon's credentials as a climatologist...Did he get a PHD in heavenly weather from divinity school?....Oh, He flunked out...never mind.
Well, he did, if I recall, get some bogus business degree.
I guess he has a PHD in con artistry, with a major in fleecing stupid Hollyweirdos.

I guess he got something from the great Gaia.

A Gore presidential bid is a good thing - Hillary, Obama and Gore killing each other is desirable, with a bit of luck, it would lead to a bloody convention floor fight, the like of which we haven't seen since the Democrat Convention in 1948.

On a list of voter concerns, global warming is about #20.

The message that this is a kook campaign is getting out.

And now a political public service announcement -

Ralph Nader in '08. The only choice for intelligent democrats. Do your patriotic duty. Send the man an encouraging note to run. Include a buck or two in the envelope.

Wait a minute, Nader proposed a flat-rate $20/hour wage to all working Americans during his campaign, even to those who worked in factories that produced Pinto's which exploded on impact! So if a worker who built Pinto's got laid off because the Pinto plant was closed due to consumer activism, where would that worker go next? To the Prius plant? ... and how much of that $20/hour would be taxed to oblivion? ... and and and ... oh, never mind

What with liberal academics, public schools and cute pandas on yogurt cups for the last 30 years, environmentalism has become a religion.

Yes, I forgot... It is not what you know, but how you FEEL.
In times like these, I am so happy not to be back in the US.
I am sure I am high on the list for indoctrination camp.
