EV, I have been mulling something over in my mind for a while and maybe you could make a comment.
The Republican party got its start as an antislavery party. Probably were considered to be extremists in their day. Their goal was to end slavery and free the slaves, but somewhere along the way, the Republican party lost the moral high ground concerning black americans. They are almost exclusively democrats, now.
So what's on my mind is, what would happen if we were to end up running a pro abortion candidate for president, like Rudy Giulianni? Could we end up ceding on the abortion issue and end up losing the moral high ground there, also? Would we ever be able to claim to be the party that respects the sanctity of life ever again?
I hope you can make sense of my ramblings! Writing isn't one of my strong suits!
You make perfect sense. There is no doubt in my mind that if the Republican Party chooses a pro-abortion nominee, it's time will be up, just as the Whig's days were up when they played these exact same political games with the central moral question of their day: Slavery.
To put it another way: Every "Republican" who is pushing a proven liberal like Giuliani or Romney is actually supporting an end to the Grand Old Party.
The core issue that holds the Reagan governing coalition together is respect for the sanctity of innocent human life.
You done good, man!
