For Clinton, New Wealth In Speeches - Clinton's Golden Voice
Washington Post ^ | February 23, 2007 | John Solomon and Matthew Mosk

Posted on 02/23/2007 2:47:19 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Former president Bill Clinton, who came to the White House with modest means and left deeply in debt, has collected nearly $40 million in speaking fees over the past six years, according to interviews and financial disclosure statements filed by his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.).

Last year, one of his most lucrative since he left the presidency, Clinton earned $9 million to $10 million on the lecture circuit. He averaged almost a speech a day -- 352 for the year -- but only about 20 percent were for personal income. The others were given for no fee or for donations to the William J. Clinton Foundation, the nonprofit group he founded to pursue causes such as the fight against AIDS.

....Many of Bill Clinton's six-figure speeches have been made to companies whose employees and political action committees have been among Hillary Clinton's top backers in her Senate campaigns. The New York investment giant Goldman Sachs paid him $650,000 for four speeches in recent years. Its employees and PAC have given her $270,000 since 2000 -- putting it second on the list of her most generous political patrons.

The banking firm Citigroup, whose employees and PAC have been Hillary Clinton's top source of campaign donations, with more than $320,000, paid her husband $250,000 for a speech in France in 2004. Last year, it committed $5.5 million for Clinton's Global Initiative to help encourage entrepreneurship and financial education among the poor.

Asked about the companies and their relationship to the Clintons, Jay Carson, a spokesman for the former president, said, "It certainly makes sense that reputable New York companies who support the policies and works of President Clinton and his foundation would also be supportive of their senator."

Bill Clinton is always in motion. Flying to exciting destinations to scout out new female talent and perhaps give a speech or two. He flew like crazy during his presidency which was a continually road show. Remember his 70 million dollar trip to Africa with a full entourage?

$1 million? Chump change. I bet he got a billion (with a b) from the Mark Rich pardon alone. Peltier just couldn't afford him...

Who on earth would pay Hillary for a speech?

Listening to her is akin to having to endure the middle seat of an airliner; while to your left is an infant with an earblock, and to your right is an obsese woman scraping wet chalk against broken glass.

I am SICK and TIRED of this Adminstration saying if you oppose this war you are UNPATRIOTIC!"

As for BJ Clinton, I wouldn't pay 2 cents to listen to him.

Yeah, but follow the $$$. Companies give money to Bubba - who can give it to Hillary for her campaign - who if elected - can help the company. Quid Pro Quo.

"Listening to her is akin to:"

...Chewing on tin foil on your back fillings after someone just kicked you in the nuts.

I truly don't know what Democrats see in her. She hasn't really done anything. Her one big initiative on health care was a flop, can't remember what she did for New York except carpetbag a Senate Seat and buy a house. And now she wants to be president? Do the Democrats feel they owe her for staying with Bill? Or do they want Bill back?

Maybe that is why Obama appeals to a large number of them. Because it is "someone else". My goodness, don't they have anyone else to run besides Reid, Pelosi, or....or... Well,...maybe they don't.

Senator Evan Bayh (D) would have wrapped this nomination up if he had any guts. Now THAT would have been an election. Buyer (D) versus Romney (R). Nothing but issues.

Have you noticed lately, Hillary has "softened" the rough edges of her voice? I wonder if she has taken voice training. It's not exactly that her voice sounds mellow and lilting, but the excessive shrillness is not there anymore.

I recall that GHWB took voice training to add more deep resonance to his whiny, nasal sounding voice. It made a big difference.

Wow he've aged a lot since he left the White House.

..lies and the other lies to cover previous lies will do that to you, just as this article sort of hints how generous his foundations are....( alot of times chairmen and other decision makers within an organization get a salary even though tax exempt status...Pelosi holds a position like that as recently disclosed)

Goldman will make the most from the global warming carbon trading scam, by which moronic Western governments pay billions to China, India and others to curb chemical emissions.

I wonder if the people who pay out all this money and the ones who hear him speak, think he is worth the price.
