AUSTIN -- Obama-rama sweeps Austin today as Democrat Barack Obama brings his 13-day-old presidential campaign to the Texas capital for a rare political do next to Town Lake.
The gates at Auditorium Shores will open at 12:30 p.m. for the 3 p.m. speech by the U.S. senator from Illinois, following a private fundraiser. The gates near Riverside Drive and South First Street might part earlier if a crowd builds. The capacity is 20,000.
Obama, 45, is believed to be the first presidential aspirant to rally voters at Auditorium Shores, typically home to concerts, since President Reagan did in July 1984.
"When you have an opportunity to see people, you go," said Shaw, an associate professor of government. "It's like if you had a chance to see John F. Kennedy in 1960."
Redfield said Obama, like President Clinton, connects with crowds and with individuals one on one.

Obama is slamming Hillary and has effectively bloodied Clinton's nose. He is going to TX and build on his momentum. This is early in the season, but Hillary is reeling from the quick punches from Obama's left hook, and appears dazed by his head snapping blows.
Hillary needs to find a corner to catch her breath....and she has to hope that this inexperienced fighter is unprepared for the below-the-belt punches that she and her corner staff are about to unleash..... I can only hope that Obama has a reinforced cup protecting his testicles, because Hillary is about to zero in on his crotch. Obama is about to get a ball-busting flurry of Hillary's rage. There aren't many on this earth who might withstand such an onslaught.
Obama hasn't slammed Hillary. His toadies and Hollywood minions are the ones who did. I predict his star will start to descend as soon as someone in the media or the opposition party holds his feet to the fire on the key issues. He's an empty suit and, sooner or later, will make that clear to the majority of voters.
Why does the phrase "Where's the beef?" come to mind when I think of Obama?
I would go if I could say Booo!!!!..........
At least Clinton and Reagan were Governors...
This guy has just over 2 YEARS in the SENATE...he hasn't even had to vote on any meaningful legislation, let alone run a country, FGS!!
Austin is a great place for him though...most of the Texas libs live there.
Dean was marginalized but the Democrat Powers -- and this "shunning" of Dean hurt the Democratics in the big push toward the General Election. The Deaniacs were hurt and pissed. They weren't enthusiastic about supporting the "establishment " candidate.....and Hillary is the establishment candidate.
Obama will probably be derailed somewhere along the campaign trail --- but Obama's supporters will not be amused when Hillary chopps the balls off of Obama.....
You mistake Obama with Brahma. The latter is a bull that supplies the beef that you are trying to discover.
They don't call it "Berkeley on the Brazos" for nothing. It'll take a hazardous waste team to clean up the mess after they're done drooling all over him.
Peaking a little early I think......
Gee...do you think this guy may be peaking too early?
I agree with you. People who are writing off the "divine" miz Clinton two years before the election are bigtime underestimating this woman and the political engine that's fueling her candidacy and I wouldn't be surprised if she steamrolls Obama boy at the finish line !!!
LOL...it will probably need one..
It is too bad that Austin is in such a beautiful part of Texas....sigh.
Oh well, maybe one day we'll get our country back and we can deport all that librul trash.
I read the "faq" for the event..No, umbrellas, no folding chairs, blankets only, No outside beverages, not even a plastic bottle of water allowed. Beverages and water will be available for Cash only.
Texans for Obama also were requesting to borrow laptops so people could use the free wi-fi at South Shores to donate money. They said that they would set up the borrowed laptops on a table, and return them to the owners later..
OH, and no weapons, even if you have a CCW permit.
His oratorical skill is with the Gipper....
No, I think it's better this way.....Build you support base now....
If you mean he "talks a good game"...I agree.
But, there is no "there" there...and he is a far, far left socialist.
The man would be dangerous as POTUS..because he is ignorant, but has far left ideas...I cringe at the thought of what his cabinet would look like.
Noam Chomsky, George Soros, Cindy Sheehan...all Cabinet Secretaries??? ugh (I am being facetious, but just barely)
I doubt they would be in his cabinet
I know...
