Tori Kovach of Aberdeen, left, is a regular feature on downtown streets, often seen near the Wishkah Bridge holding signs protesting the war in Iraq or chastising President Bush. On Wednesday, Sgt. Brendan Chamburs, the Marine Corps recruiter stationed in Aberdeen, saw Kovach holding a protest sign near Quiznos and decided to stage a counter-demonstration.
He had his sign made at Coast Line Signs. Kovach was unmoved, saying, I believe in the military, but I think the military is being misused. They are dying for a lie. A few people honked their horns as they drove by, but not everyone was inclined to support free speech. Before Sgt. Chamburs showed up, someone threw an egg at Kovach from a passing car, hitting his sign.
Thanks for what you do !
God Bless You !
When they got to the county line, the entire police force was there to welcome them and escorted them back home. Cars had pulled over on the 4lane bumper to bumper with their occupants lining the road cheering. They passed the school complex on the way and the schools were let out while they passed so the students could cheer.
When the bus became visible from the Armory, the whole place erupted in cheers and it went on till they pulled up in front of the Armory. One of the soldiers remarked that when they saw all the police and people at the county line, they thought their had been a bad car accident and when they saw all the people cheering, he said "Holy cow! Thats for us!"
It was a really memorable day. We are really proud of our guys and gals here. Its funny the MSM never shows this kind of support for our troops. They are too busy covering the likes of Shehag, I suppose. If they ever did cover these patriotic gatherings, I bet it wouldn't take long for patriotism to return to America.
I just saw this, sorry so late to the thread, but kudos to you Sgt!! The picture of you makes me so proud! My best friend's hubby is a Marine just back from Iraq and he gets so mad when we drive down Rt. 9 (in Pok NY) and see these creepy anti-war (really they are not anti-war, they just want the other side to win!) slime. I have two cousins in the Marines as well, one in Thailand, one in Iraq..God Bless you, Sgt. Semper Fi!
I sent you a letter commending you for your actions....but the post office returned it....bad address I guess
Sorry
